Anywhere to sign in Orleans this week?

Saturday 9/19, 9-11am in City Park near Cafe Du Monde is the next signing event. I signed on Sunday.

And to recall the 20 most conservative legislators would only take a certain percentage of voters from their particular district, not the entire state. That district leaned conservative enough to vote them in to begin with so it stands that those folks are willing to sign a recall petition to force the issue. But you get to cherry-pick into conservative locales and the absolute number you need is much, much lower.

And then what exactly? They get replaced by more potentially feckless politicians that will say whatever they have to say to get elected, and then do whatever is best for them when they get into office?

Boosie, I don't disagree, why not get all of them, though?

Watch them shite on themselves and take out Schexnayder as well in the House, hell, I wouldn't mind taking out Nungesser to clean ' em all out.

Or they say “damn, these people are serious. I don’t want to lose my job over this. Where is that petition that only needs a simple majority to end the shutdown?”

And if they don’t?

Because some individual legislative districts aren’t going to be responsive to it. But there are presumably more conservative voters in Blake Miguez’ district who would be willing to sign a recall petition to force his hand than there are in some Democratic districts who may not be as affected by the shutdown.

Much to that other poster’s chagrin every time I mention this, it’s about allocating your limited time and resources into an area where you’re most likely to make a difference.

Get an organized group together and let your Senator know you’re filing the paperwork and you’d be surprised the traction you can get.

Recall them and vote for someone who will.

Unfortunately, I live in a heavily left leaning district, so my reps aren't going to sign the paper, and no way I could collect enough signatures to recall him. My legislator wouldn't even attend the session because of covid, and was very vocal that they should have just done it virtually ... while collecting his per diem I am sure.

But the argument of limited time and resources ... it doesn't take any time to sign your name on a piece of paper. As of right now, all but 5 parishes have a parish rep. It's pretty easy to get a form to them if you sign up friends/family/coworkers, which doesn't take any time. If all those people are willing to spend their time on the effort, then why NOT sign your name? You can still vote to keep him when the time comes.

If you want to recall your own representatives, by all means, start the paperwork. I just see and hear enough people fed up that are more than willing to get Edwards out, that I don't think it's nearly as "impossible" as the naysayers think.

Better to gripe and complain, or actually try something?

I am happy to see Republicans in Louisiana wasting their time trying to recall a governor who most here think has done a good job. I doubt they can get 600K legit names on their petitions, but, if they could, I seriously doubt they can find someone strong willing to run, that could beat JBE.

They are all over the place. I went and signed in Bossier on Saturday. Just type in Recall John Bel Edwards Shreveport/Bossier in facebook search.

Just for reference, I waited in line for 10 minutes. There were a TON of signatures.

That's not how it works. The ballot is simply for or against recall. If the majority of votes are for recall, he leaves office and is replaced by the order of succession, which means the Lt. Governor would serve out the remainder of his term. There is no special election, and if there were (for example, for a legislative office), the recalled candidate cannot run for it.

Quite honestly, I think it will be hard to get Edwards supporters to show up to vote against recall. That's not a passionate group that will go out of their way to get to the polls. The passionate ones are the ones wanting him out, and they will show up.

I am philosophically opposed . I don’t generally think it’s wise to recall a duly elected politician unless there is a crime. He won an election and so he should govern. Even if he sucks.

Change my mind.

It is because he sucks.

He is locking down the state and preventing legitimate businesses from operating for political reasons. If he was a republican I would be doing the same fricking thing.

I tend to agree. Otherwise, it will start a never-ending cycle of election...almost immediately followed by a recall. And this is coming from someone who thought this "pandemic" was overblown hyperbole from DAY 1 and has HATED the way JBE has and is continuing to handle this whole pathetic episode. If the legislature can do something, then that's where the action should occur. You know, checks and balances and all that jazz.

Like it or not, the majority of the people who voted in the last election voted for JBE. Rather than "recall" someone, perhaps the voters in the state should learn a lesson. I don't give a shite what kind of moderate campaign package they wrap it in, Democrats are first and foremost fiercely loyal to the party and will toe the party line on any major issues. Your staying home out of spite because your preferred Republican did not make the runoff, or because the run-off Republican isn't 100% aligned with you is totally asinine. It is cutting off your nose to spite your face.

You ain't lying. Stuff like this brings out the whackos.

I signed on Friday in Jefferson Parish, after Honor Chode detailed his non-Phase 3. They were beneath the American Flag on Vets across from Lakeside Mall.

I am assuming that someone can sign in any parish not just the one they reside in?
