Recall petitions floated across the desk of the 20 most conservative Senators would be more effective

Only about 600k signatures are needed to get it on the ballot.

Then what...what happens when it is on the ballot....same thing that happened when governor was on the ballot last year???

Absolutely this!!!

All these bar owners that are hosting the recall Edwards signature events have to realize that the GOP supermajority could end this whole thing tomorrow....they just won't. That is nearly as bad, if not actually as bad, as what JBE is doing.

I'm still waiting on my parish to get a representative so that I can sign.

It doesn't take that much effort to sign your name on a piece of paper. Winning the actual election, harder, but still not impossible. In 2013, Port Allen successfully recalled their mayor after less than a year on the job.

Or maybe the same thing that happened to former Mayor Deedy Slaughter of Port Allen. The voters saw their mistake, less than a year into her term, and successfully recalled her.

Edwards didn't win by a landslide. Even with a less than ideal opponent, he only won by about 40,000 votes. That's not THAT many to have to change their mind.

You can spin your wheels all you want.

But the most direct and more efficient route has always been available to you. Simple majority of either chamber

You’re not wrong. The problem is that the legislature refuses to take up or down votes on revoking the shutdowns so we cannot know which legislators are the ones holding things up to recall them.

Our state constitution is designed to centralize all money and power in the governor’s office and to shield legislators from controversy.

It’s not about what I want. It’s about what’s going to motivate the greatest number of people to push for change if they want it.

You keep saying this, I’ll keep pointing out that means relying on the same feckless politicians that threatened to sign a piece of paper months ago and literally have done nothing since, and round and round we go.

Yes, can’t see any posts until approved
I had to be approved to join main group, I have not tried to join my parish group yet

And to recall the 20 most conservative legislators would only take a certain percentage of voters from their particular district, not the entire state. That district leaned conservative enough to vote them in to begin with so it stands that those folks are willing to sign a recall petition to force the issue. But you get to cherry-pick into conservative locales and the absolute number you need is much, much lower.

I'm not 100% sure of this, but if someone chooses to sign a recall petition, they must use the same signature as when you go vote. If your voter registration uses your middle initial, use the initial. If it doesn't match up, the secretary of state (or whomever oversees this), will disqualify the signature. That is one of the reason it is hard to complete a recall. Many signatures are disqualified.

No. It will never make it to a vote

Of course, it isn’t intended to either.

I am philosophically opposed . I don’t generally think it’s wise to recall a duly elected politician unless there is a crime. He won an election and so he should govern. Even if he sucks.

Change my mind.

He damn sure didn't win on my vote because I supported Vitter and Rispone. I signed the petition last week.

....you think that "recall" is a better opponent than Vitter or Rispone....that's ridiculous.

Governor >>>>> mayor of a podunk backwoods town

ETA I'll give you a spoiler here....this won't make it to a ballot....BUT if it did less people would vote to recall Edwards than voted for Rispone in 2019....I'd take that to the bank.
