Their national governments have lost their way some recently, but the New Zealanders and Aussies are generally some of the most salt of the earth and hilarious people you'll ever meet.

(We have the same algorithm on YouTube... I wondered why it was recommended earlier in the week... association to owlfan86... lol)
This was a hoot to hear - and I had remembered the story well.
For review, New Zealand has gone full on DEI looney toons with their hiring practice.
If you'll recall, they had the ship on 'auto-pilot', something we never allowed (and was a worthless feature) in the U.S. service.
They fought automation -- that's the story. And it's hilarious.
PS - The fact Defense Minister Judith Collins, went off on public rants about how it wasn't 'The gender (or sexuality) of the Captain (Yvonne Grey)' responsible for the sinking and it really was 'A Triumph' that their ship was at the bottom of the ocean, reminded me of this:
