The biggest issue with schools is the lack of parental involvement, most notably the black inner city communities. These communities have been destroyed by liberal policies & indoctrination by community organizers and clergy bought and paid for by the liberal zealots pushing their agenda. You take this out of the equation and teachers are paid fairly for 8 months of work.

Of course you can’t say that in real life because you’re every “ist” in the book. But it’s the truth.

That makes sense on the surface. Now let’s look at EBR. Almost all the kids who come from a two parent home and have a household income over say $100,000 don’t go to public schools. Then the kids who does well we remove them from a school to put them into a Magnet school. We now integrate all the special education kids into the classroom. What are we working with now?

Kids from poor families who we know aren’t high performing with a bunch of special education students. And the reason for low scores are the teachers fault? That makes perfect sense!

Exactly!

While we all hear how "School X" is horrible and teachers have a hard time there, we NEVER hear that "School X" has closed due to lack of teachers willing to work there.

Conversely, if a private business location is bad they close. Whether it be the population in the area, or the workers quitting/striking against the work environment, the place shuts down. 55 years old and have NEVER heard that "School X" is closing due to refusal of workers to work there. Worthless Union to not demand a better environment or force a closure.

Another worthless Union example is for the Union to allow dangerous work environments. Name other places of business that require metal detectors and on site armed security/police presence. Only ones I know of are some kind of punitive legal repercussion places like jails, court ordered rehabs, Court houses.

As long as the worthless Union and the workers (teachers) continue to allow it, to participate in the systems, it will continue. If it's really that bad perhaps slangin' fries and letting the shake machine be broked would be a better job alternative. At least minimum wage at McD's won't have you getting assaulted inside or in the parking lot most days.

Raise the pay....and the expectations.

My 3rd and 4th are still in elementary and it's a wild hit or miss with teacher quality. The current school is top heavy with front running teachers who really only know how to make presentations to "A" students.

Go all voucher forcing schools to compete for students and waste will come out and teacher pay will go up and go up dramatically.

In the state of Mississippi teachers don't have paid maternal leave. That is seriously F****ed up.

This is putting the cart before the horse.

"The better salary" is there because the job being done requires a rare or unique skillset and the output from said job is lucrative for the person paying the salary.

Teaching doesn't require a particularly rare or unique set of skills and there is zero revenue generated, hence they don't get paid very much.

You might say that this is sad commentary on the value we place, as a society, on the education of our children, and I would agree. I would also point out that this societal value is dragged down in aggregate by communities of people who place zero value on education. Those parents that do, pick up the slack where necessary or pay for private schools.

With all of that said, I am sure there is plenty of garbage I would gladly cut out of state, local, and federal budgets to give teachers a pay raise.
