How would you interpret this piece of art by Banksy?

Banksy is a British street artist and this is his interpretation:
quote:
“At first I thought I should just shut up and listen to black people about this issue,” the elusive street artist wrote on Instagram. “But why would I do that? It’s not their problem, it’s mine. People of color are being failed by the system. The white system. Like a broken pipe flooding the apartment of the people living downstairs… This is a white problem. And if white people don’t fix it, someone will have to come upstairs and kick the door in.”

Man, I did not make that interpretation at all. What I see is the destruction of America by dark forces as represented by the burning flag and memorial candle. The first thing I thought of from the picture in the painting was Antifa.
My interpretation seems to be 180 out of phase from the artist's original intention. This may come from two reasons:
1. This is a British artist and he really doesn't have a good feel of how astroturfed this BLM movement really is. This BLM movement will be dead right after the election and will rise up again in the spring/summer 2024.
2. The difference in cognitive dissonance. Two people are looking at the same picture and coming to two opposite meanings.

Tell him to move to Hollygrove and help them overcome their injustices.

Here's some nice art describing Banksy's home nation:

I feel like he needs to be more elusive.

Thanks but no thanks.

I took it the same way you did. Reading his explanation had me scratching my head.

Hell . . . I can paint better looking stars than Banksy.

My interpretation is that it's vandalism...just like all of his other "work".

Ask Banksy if he speaks German, then accept his thanks.

He should just make one called platitudes.

There is no systemic racism.
Blacks ( and everyone else ) who have bad outcomes w/ encountering the police have only themselves to blame.
In 2020, black folks would benefit from stop whining so damn much and start being more accountable.
That's what I see.

Well, okay. Probably a decent thing to do. If people have a problem, let’s hear them explain what that problem is.
quote:Wait, what? So, don’t listen to black people?
the elusive street artist wrote on Instagram. “But why would I do that? It’s not their problem, it’s mine.
1) What exactly Is the problem?
2) Why is it HIS problem and not THEIRS? Or ALL OF OURS?
quote:
People of color are being failed by the system.
How are they being failed?
Are you sure it’s “the system” that is failing?
Because no one seems interested in finding actual causes. No one seems to understand the difference between causation and correlation.
quote:
The white system.
Are you sure it’s a “white” system?
Can you give an example of a better system?
quote:
Like a broken pipe flooding the apartment of the people living downstairs…
This sounds pretty racist, Banksy! Maybe the problem really IS you.
quote:
This is a white problem. And if white people don’t fix it, someone will have to come upstairs and kick the door in.”
Again, can you give me just ONE solution?
Name the problem and give a solution. Even if it’s just half of a solution, and not completely thought out. What is your proposal, Mr. Fix It Cuz It’s My Problem?

quote:Good grief.
The white system.

My point is it appears, at least to me that hes is sending the opposite message.
