No. The timing wasn’t right.
People still had hope that most politicians had integrity and love for this country. It took the disaster that was the Obama administration to open their eyes.

I am stunned that Romney managed to lose pretty much every swing state. The Midwest was doing horrendously economically. All you had to do was basically stay in five states for the last four months of the election and register as many voters as he could and he wins at least a couple of those states
That election almost brought out my tinfoil hat for a couple minutes to see if some of those swing states had that Democrat party absentee voter harvesting technique to steal the state
The evidence is compelling but for now I’m still sticking with Romney being a garbage candidate

President Obama says the 80s are calling Clark. Pick up the phone.

Well you have one of the most productive presidents in history leading your nation right now so I don’t see how you think he isn’t worth a crap. To top it off he’s getting results while being attacked 24/7 by the vast majority of the media. What else could you ask for?

If you live in the present only, then you must be in a state of bliss.
Down the road, not too long for now,we'll see what his juicing of the economy will bring.
Don't get too comfortable.

Bringing jobs back is juicing the economy? The economy will fine as long we don’t get some whack job lefty in office because their exact intent would be to destroy the economy in order to promote govt assistance instead of getting people off of it and on their own two feet. How any working American could vote Dem now is baffling.

No, different era with no social media and his personal issues probably would have been magnified. He probably would have needed to dump in huge amounts of his own personal wealth just to compete buying up TV time. Plus Bush with all of his flaws, was a great campainger and knew how to win even if it meant playing a bit dirty. He wasn't a pushover like Jeb.

Guess I haven't seen Trump dump $1trillion into the economy for shovel ready jobs" and "green initiatives".
What is this juicing you speak of?
Pro tip-Removing restrictions is not juicing.

Was the situation he stepped into the same as his predecessor?
Not by a long shot.

2000 was a repudiation of Clinton’s scandals... not exactly the right person for that

Not as well because immigration/islam wasn't as big an issue, and manufacturing base wasn't completely destroyed yet.
This. It took a while for the base to realize just how badly the GOP establishment was screwing it over. What I'm going to be more interested in seeing is who takes up the mantle in 2024. Every big name republican on Fox is a swamp dweller.

I know right?
no QE much less multiple waves of it and actual nonzero interest rates

Logically yes. Realistically no. In this time frame the neocons and religious right were brainwashed into loving the GOPe. They dissed Rudy because he wasn't 'religious' enough and Rudy would have made a great President.
Also: research when Obama ran against Alan Keyes in Illinois. Obama claimed to be more of a authentic African American because he was born in Kenya.

Also Patrick Joseph Buchanan had the same policies as Trump but was 'religious' and Catholic; and he was called a Jew hating freak isolationist by the media; and wiped out as a candidate in a few days. Just like Dan Quayle---back when the media's influence worked---

The primary consisted of George Bush, McCain, & Alan Keyes. Does he beat George Bush? Why or why not?
Back in 2000 GOP voters still had some sense of morality. Running an openly racist campaign would have doomed him pretty quickly, especially because there was no Islamic terror threat, no demographic time-bomb, and no black president. These are all things that radicalized American voters AFTER that election.

"The Reform Party now includes a Klansman, Mr. Duke, a neo-Nazi, Mr. Buchanan, and a communist, Ms. Fulani. This is not company I wish to keep."
-Donald Trump (2000)
When he decided not to run for president with the Reform party.

Ironic given that Trump called Buchannan a neo-nazi
