It’s called the us farm bill. Runs about 800 billion dollars a year. It includes food stamps

When I was in the cattle business I saw millionaires line up for subsidies every August.

Partially?

In a way it's apples to oranges. Welfare sponges--in general-- produce nothing. Farmers actual help fuel the economy. The actual villain in both seems to be the government programs that create the opportunities for milking the taxpayer and creating a voter base that will vote to continue their gravy train.
Get rid of the ethanol mandate, and requiring means testing and work in exchange for benefits would help weed out those that don't actually need help.

A record amount of money was paid out to rice farmers here in Arkansas just recently according to our statewide paper.

This is why the vast majority of gas stations are offering at best useless and potentially harmful ethanol in 10% of your fuel.
Also a big reason why your food costs rose over the past 10 years.
And like any other big government payout program, will be very very difficult to eliminate.

It's not just corn. Here in La. our cane farmers benefit from US govt restrictions on imported sugar from Latin America.

You can take your measured, reasoned response, your objectivity, your non-biased answer and

There's no room for that here when talking about farming subsidies during lunchtime.

The Des Moines register used to publish farm subsidies once a year. Made for a lot of uncomfortable mornings in the local breakfast diner!

Ethanol mandates go a LONG way, and neither side has the balls to repeal it.

Republicans don't want to risk losing their midwestern stranglehold.

Democrats don't want to risk looking like they're anti-farmer.

Combined with the Ethanol lobby pushing the idea that it is "cleaner" and you have a literal hydra of bad policy that has led to corn (actually one of the worst crops in a food to space ratio) being a major staple in the midwest.

Because of shitty gas.

Why do you think SNAP benefits come from USDA authorized by the Farm Bill every year?

Best I could do. I think the paper is a pay site.
