Normally i avoid the NY Slimes but this is a pretty detailed article, plus someone made it un-paywalled.

quote:

A Louisiana state legislative committee was about to consider a bill in April 2024 when Richard Nelson, then the state’s revenue secretary, received an urgent message from Gov. Jeff Landry. Get the bill passed, the newly elected Republican governor told him, because they needed it for something else.

Mr. Nelson walked across a room in Baton Rouge’s towering State Capitol to the bill’s author, Chris Turner, a Republican state representative.

“‘Hey, we need to hijack your bill,’” Mr. Nelson told Mr. Turner. “‘I can’t really tell you what it’s about. All I can tell you is that it’s important.’”

Mr. Turner agreed. The bill had started out as a tax rebate for fiber-optic equipment. But when it was voted on by the state House of Representatives less than two months later, it had become a tax rebate for equipment used in data centers.

Mr. Turner had helped land the largest development in Louisiana’s history: a $50 billion data center for the Silicon Valley giant Meta that planners say could cover about six square miles and use seven times as much energy as New Orleans.

Meta wanted the rebate to build its data center in Richland Parish, an impoverished farming community in Louisiana’s northeast corner. The tech company also needed a secret deal done quickly, and state officials were eager to oblige.

Can you name the states that don’t offer tax incentives to corporations but still manage to attract them to relocate there?

Why should I?

But go ahead if you'd like. I'm fine with incentivizing within reason.

If you go digging you will find that Julia Letlow made money off this shite as did many more politicians.

There were deals made before the NDAs were ever signed and the actual release of the stock trades werent released until well after the mandated timeline required by law.

Who was or will be punished? NO ONE!

Jeff Landry included as he did the same shite in these "deals".

The Times has the most experienced in depth and fact-checked reporting in the country. If you avoid it, you’re cheating yourself…

I can tell you about a bunch of Richland Parish teachers who are happy about this data center.

You idiots don’t understand business incentive structures to help lure in investments, what this project does for the local tax base, nor do you understand that industrial water usage is within normal industrial water usage means.

Manufacturing, chemical plants, refineries, steel production all have high demands. Yet tools in this state, who would probably be happy with any of those industries coming in, can’t understand the context of industrial water usage as it pertains to major projects.

Same goes for power.

Just get off Facebook. You all drive the collective IQ down on that site.

I’ll be glad when this thing finally gets built and people from other parts of the country stop worrying about what the frick is going on in North La. NYT is like a nosey kid trying to sit around the grown folks table and get in on the conversation.

I work with an old Sheetmetal contractor here in Shreveport. He said he just lost a kid that he had been training for a couple of years to that job.
They started him out at $30 an hour as a Sheetmetal helper. With $100 a day per diem. Working 6-10’s. You can work Sunday and get another 10hrs overtime and another $100 a day per diem.
I can assure you that in North Louisiana for a kid without a high school diploma. That is one of the best opportunities he will ever come across.
They also told him the job would last at least 5 years.
His old boss said, I can’t even be mad at him. If I was his age, I’d have done the same thing.

Start here and work backwards.

Go look at who owned the land/s before a META shell company bought it.

There is alot to find if you really wanna know.

Like giving billions in tax breaks to a $1 trillion company? Is that within reason?
