Those aren't geopolitical conflicts. No longer are great powers trading parcels of land back and forth, fighting for access to waterways, or seeking to secure frontiers with key geographic landmarks. That has entirely dissipated. There are still some issues, but the major issues of the continent that drove politics for centuries have disappeared. You are more likely to have geopolitical issues at the periphery (see Greece and Turkey and the competition in the Eastern Med) than you are within Europe itself.

The culture war will be (is) geopolitical in nature. Hell, you could argue that on display in Ukraine.

So what are they fighting about in Ukraine?

Don’t kid yourself, religion, ethnicity, and cultural ties are entwined with the Geographic landscape. Stoked emotion is the fuel for the fire.

Meh, these are two different scenarios.

Similar to a degree...yes, but different.

It's all one scenario in 2 parts. Just took 8 years to finish the plan

Oh lord. Just take the L

Ukraine (and more importantly Russia) isn't part of the system he was talking about, because they're not apart of it (or in Central Europe).

That's why former soviet satellite nations want to integrate into Europe and not Russia, and why Russia doesn't have "Mexico or Canada" on its borders

Is it better for the US to fight Putin to the last Ukranian vs. letting him take Ukraine and then Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Moldova, and parts of Poland?

Well we know if Russia loses this, they're not going after Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Moldova, and parts of Poland

If Russia wins, what assurances do we have that they won't try to engage in operations in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Moldova, and parts of Poland?

What? This makes no sense. Are a bunch of trans people gathering in a breakaway region of Hungary, with support from Erdogan Pasha himself to lay siege to Viena?

Ukraine is in Eastern Europe and is not part of the larger geopolitical bodies that represent mainstream Europe.

You are just describing geopolitics back to me without understanding anything. Is Alsace and Lorraine an issue for Germany and France right now?

Western Ukraine wanted it to be. As for Central Europe, what is your description?

The Czech Republic?
Slovakia?
Austria?
Hungary?
Romania?
Bulgaria?
Poland?

If so, I have been to most of them.

That would be Western Europe...

Let me ask you: what will be your thought if a nuke goes off? What if Kiev, Kharkiv, or say a battalion is nuked? Will it be self reflection?

Except WWI was the product of a web of alliances and poorly understood military science at the time. In this case Russia has no significant allies willing to go to bat for them. This could not be more unlike WWI.

We should probably just let the Russians invade whoever they want.

Probably not, but you may want to scope out
Transnistria and Kaliningrad. Is it improbable, yes. That being said, I would not dismiss it totally.

Ummmmmmmmm, yeah, that’s exactly what is happening. We don’t understand the ramifications of nuclear war. Like we don’t know if mutually assured destruction is actually real, it’s simply a threat. But frick around and find out like they did in WWI, we might.
