In the absence of a ceasefire, Putin wants to take as much territory as possible to ratchet up pressure on Ukraine while seeking to exploit unexpected opportunities to acquire more, three of the sources said.

Russian forces control around 18% of Ukraine and this month thrust into the northeastern region of Kharkiv.

Putin is counting on Russia's large population compared to Ukraine to sustain superior manpower even without a mobilisation, bolstered by unusually generous pay packets for those who sign up.

"Russia will push further," the source who has worked with Putin said.

Putin will slowly conquer territories until Zelenskiy comes up with an offer to stop, the person said, saying the Russian leader had expressed the view to aides that the West would not provide enough weapons, sapping Ukraine's morale.

Of course he wants a ceasefire. Everyone wants a ceasefire.

The terms of the ceasefire are the problem.

Putin doesn't want a ceasefire. He wants complete surrender.

IMHO as a point of pure military strategy, Putin should push for Unconditional Surrender of Ukraine. He should cite the Allies war against the Nazis in WW2 as his nation's justification.

Putin might want to point out that, although Russia demands Unconditional Surrender, Russia's post-war treatment of the Ukraine will be lenient, but, it will not be an independent nation-state aligned closely with the United States of America.

I'm not intimately knowledgeable about the important details concerning the military power of both sides, but, my amateur opinion is this: Ukraine cannot win a long war against Russia. Ukraine's military manpower pool cannot sustain a long war against Russia.

NATO has been lying and breaking every promise to Russia since the day it was founded.

But the neo-cons, mainstream media, and our foreign policy moral crusading overlords have insisted that Russia intends to conquer all of Ukraine as a precursor to their plan to attack NATO and conquer all or Europe.

When did the narrative shift to everyone knows Russia wants a ceasefire? Lol

Republicans are offering benefits if you fight for a foreign country. When can we expect you to post from the Ukrainian front lines and prove how much you hate Putin?

I am hoping someone can explain Putin's long term plan here.

Even if the war is ended there's no guarantee Ukraine won't join NATO. In fact this whole engagement has made it much more likely.

NATO is the war machine for the ROTHSCHILD banking dynasty, the dynasty PUTIN wants no part of.

If I am RUSSIA, I do whatever is necessary to prevent Ukraine from NATO membership and RUSSIA from joining the ROTHSCHILD banking dynasty.

Get the FEDERAL RESERVE and UN out of the US now.

If Russia was really interested in ensuring Ukraine not NATO, perhaps that could have been ensured prior to invasion, not after.

Ukraine now is much more likely to join NATO post invasion, and if they do, is Russia willing to go to war with all of NATO? This doesn't seem well thought out.
