They literally see the worst of us- all day every day. That has to wear on a man. I know there are many who are in it because they got bullied and such, but I don’t really care. Abide by the law and you (almost) never have to worry. I say this as a man with a rap sheet (mostly bar fights with some “criminal” mischief). Certainly not bragging- and very blessed to still be here to raise my children. But yeah- I’d rather crawl in 149 degree attics than deal with what they see in the daily.

I would make it until I came across my first child abuse case and then I would lose my job and probably go to jail.

Probably till I finished a dozen donuts and two cups of coffee then I’m done with it.

I actually served as a sheriff's deputy for 23+ years. Dealt with killers, child molesters, DV, armed robberies, drugs, drug dealers, etc. Things changed around 2012. I left the sheriff's office in 2013. Would never consider going back.

If your local sheriff or police allow ride alongs, do it. Well worth it.

My husband has been a police officer for 18 years. He’s currently a crimes against children detective and was a homicide detective before that. I do not know how he does it.

The first "Din-Do-Nuffin" I came across that refused to exit their vehicle would be tased until their bowels caught fire..
No fricking way.. Not Me... I couldn't do it...Not with the patience they exhibit .. When I was young, I wasn't perfect by any means, but when a trooper pulled me over, I would be doing frickin "Jumping Jack's" if thats what he told me to do.

We've smoked a couple of cops in the electric chair in FL for horrific crimes. And here you are making excuses for them. Unbelievable

Having lost my friend in the line of duty, I wouldn't even try.

Your point? Some priests have diddled kids. Does that mean all priests are horrible?
Every profession has its share of shitheads. Do you condemn them all?

Not long, like maybe a couple of hours before bodies start to pile up in the shrubs/woods along roads.
I read during the Bush years that one of the Carolina’s or Virginia’s the state constitution allows resisting arrest as a right. That the nature of man is to be free and resistance is therefore the natural state of man. That alone rules me out of trying to police there.

It really has to be in your blood. The pay is shitty and you put your life on the line every day. You may also work in a blue city where the politicians don't support you and are openly hostile to you. Then, you have the anti-police idiots who are fueled by the bad rhetoric that puts your life more in danger.

Just shy of 20 years.
But that was 20+ years ago now.
Couldn’t do it today. Wouldn’t try.
