You know it’s coming. Under the guise of fighting climate change, they will mandate that all homes install smart thermostats. Then they will justify raising it to uncomfortable temps for the same reasons.

More control than that is definitely on the way... I could really see this being done at the State level... Doubt it stands up on the Federal level...

Of course ole Slick Willie pushed the water saving toilet that would not push a turd out of a house and it remained the standard for about 5 years or so... There was a big bootleg business of toilets from Canada...

On the other hand, those Yankees wouldn’t last a month without AC. They’d move right back North.

It will definitely be proposed.

Quit connecting things to the internet that don't need to be connected. That includes that new car you bought. Those will be controlled just like your thermostat.

Isn’t Texas already doing this? Under the rationale that their systems can’t always handle the demand so they remotely adjust people’s thermostats.

don't give in, screw with them instead..Put power to their 'smart thermostat' but in no way allow it to touch your central heat/air..

It would be nice to have competent feds who would invest in our infrastructure rather than tranny conversion therapy in Pakistan.

I think companies in a few states are doing this.

They don't necessarily need smart thermostats when they have smart power meters at the point where it comes into your house.

Declare that you heat your home with wood harvested from your own woodlot, and you aircondition by opening your windows.

By the time the bean counters have written legislation to cover both, you'll be long dead and their bosses have moved to other sinecures.

That's what all of the chips on shite are for: control. It's just getting started, yall should already be pushing back.

That's easy. Replace the centralized system with individual room units, like 75% of the civilized world uses.

Programs like this exist in a bunch of states. In Texas, it's not from the state itself and is opt in.

They won’t need to do that. You’re thinking too granularly. The feds will just cut the power at the source when your area is “using too much”.
