Constitutional law expert Laurence Tribe argues that Trump is set to become “a walking, talking violation of the Constitution” if he doesn’t give up his businesses.

Oh now they're worried about that document?

Didn't he already say that on the 15th he was transferring the company to his kids?

Hasn't he already said the plans are to transfer everything to his kids?

Richard Painter, a former ethics lawyer for President George W. Bush, says Trump needs to divest from any part of his businesses that interact with foreign governments. “To satisfy the Constitution, he needs to make sure he does not own companies that are accepting payments from foreign government or corporations owned by foreign governments,” Painter told ABC News.

So someone explain to me why this is a big deal but wasn't with Clinton Foundation? I guess selling a real product/service is worse than taking in millions of dollars in "donations"

Oh wait, hold on....
quote:

“The Constitution was deliberately written to forbid a U.S. official, particularly a president, from accepting a profit from a foreign government or from some entity representing a foreign government. The reason for that was the long experience of European corruption,” Tribe said.

By US Official, do you mean like a Secretary of State maybe?

Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the Constitution reads, “No person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince or foreign state.”

Making an emoluments case. Meh. I don't think doing business with foreign governments=emoluments. So if an ambassador stayed at a Trump property, IMHO, that is not an emolument. That's normal course of business stuff.

NOW, if a foreign government paid an unusually large sum to purchase a Trump property, then you are getting into trouble. BUT even then he has the ability to ask for Congressional approval.

He may need to violate the constitution in order to straighten out the violations from the last 8 years.

I hope this is sarcasm because that is just a ridiculous statement.

So POTUS says I am not accepting payment except for $1 from American taxpayers for being president. I am not breaking the constitution.

Some liberal idiot then sues. The looser(s) appeals all the way to SCOTUS where a 5-4 decision says POTUS wins!

More winning!

No and he sold agricultural goods to Europe all the time where foreign royals purchased it!

The media is like an abusive husband-- always projecting their actions, gaslighting, lying, name calling.

Yes, motherfrickers, there was a time when this wasn't the norm. MAGA!

On the 15th he is announcing his plans. More than likely Ivanka will not be involved as it looks like she will be involved in his administration.
