The "fog of war" applies here. Chaos, the unknown, etc. when they figured out where it was coming from you dont just go Rambo. Considerations have to be made, booby traps, etc. total chaos like you cannot imagine. Those of us who have lived it, we know what they were facing and dealing with.

Did any police return fire from below? Get somebody down there with a scoped rifle and take him out

Not a ton of fog bro, one of the first 3 officers on the radio after the call came in told them exactly where he was firing from, multiple times. Mandalay bay, higher floor, left side, towards the middle. If dispatcher didn't catch that, or push it further until later she needs to be fired.

They should have sent a rocket into that hotel room from a helicopter!

Because that rocket would have damaged just that room?
No chance the explosion causes structural damage to the entire building?
Think it through.

It's a shame none of those officers had a real rifle in their car to shoot back with. 400 yards is a very long arse ways, but it's not too far for someone who knows what they're doing to land a first shot.

They actually did place several snipers in place on different roof tops.

That's the thing, is it disgrace in the instance, or is that actually typical?

Its Vegas. Surely the PD and hotels have plans for active shooters. Its just so strange

And that was after setting off censors on the windows that were broken. Not to metion the rounds of ammunition it would take to fire at the windows so that they could be jackhammered(?) out

There's video on twitter of someone firing from a much lower floor, as well.

I agree, but I also have no idea how those things would work outside of what I see in the movies. Maybe that's not accurate whatsoever.

Several things:

- Guest in adjacent rooms complained and hotel security was dispatched
- The security guard wasshot in the leg through the door when he went up to the room
- The first cops up there were armed with only handguns
- You do not want to go up against a guy armed with a fully automatic weapon with a pistol and a bullet proof vest.
- They waited until SWAT was there.

How the hell can you tell where gun shots are coming from?
Hmmm, two broken windows from the hotel might have been a tip off?
The alarms that were set off breaking those windows, could have been a clue?
The incredible amount of noise (multiple gunshots and possibly a jackhammer to break the windows initially) might have alarmed hotel guests and security.

Realistically, one could argue that there should have been someone in the room(s) before shooting ever took place.

shot for 72 minutes into a crowd of 22,000 and "only" injured 5 percent. So he wasn't all that accurate.

Some "expert" on CBS this morning was insisting the shooter was experienced because he was able to kill people despite being 400 yards away and being able to compensate for "wind shear". The guy kep bringing up wind shear. I don't do much long range shooting but I don't think wind shear matters when your target is 100s of feet by 100s of feet.

Link? I would think we would have seen a window busted during or after if that was actually true.
