IMO, the Mayor and City Council are getting their marching orders from people who want this to end with Trump sending in Federal agents. They want a Waco type ending that they can hang around Trump's neck.

Take their claims seriously.
Drop pamphlets stating that in 24 hours, the border of the CHAZ will be considered an international border, and treated accordingly. Let out anyone that wants to leave, then shut it off. Move in the national guard, cut off electricity and water, shoot down any drones that fly over, etc etc.

Since they have formed an autonomous state, President Trump needs to schedule meetings in 6-8 weeks to discuss a trade deal, immigration quotas, etc. Then seal off the border until those negotiations can be held and the details worked out.
