Yea thats been pretty much the story for the ones tried in the US.
They have had more success in Europe and other parts of the world. Some are just considered non-profit stores operate with government support and partner with food manufacturers to sell surplus goods at heavily discounted prices to lower income folks. I'm not knee jerk against ideas like that considering how much food goes to waste here but again it unfortunately would probably attract shitty individuals that would screw it up.

Yea for a brief period of time during the the Red Scare and the Communist Control Act of the 50's and that was itself tied to the Smith Act. The Supreme Court effectively neutered those from being used to prosecute someone for simply espousing Communist beliefs or even organizing communist political parties

You might think that sounds like cops but no. These “violence interrupters” will be “ex gang members” who step between the “beef” and the bullet. They would supposedly show up before shots ring out, talk rival crews down, and reduce the cycle of retaliation.
