Damn, I guess I need to find that commercial & watch it. Must've been a real SJW beauty.

Nike's huge international market was unaffected by the kneeling controversy.

I mean Gillette trying to make it look like the black guys were taking a stance against the white guys in an effort to protect the white women .... seriously, that's just going too far. They tried to subtly make a racial statement in the process of insulting men in general ... and that just wasn't cool

I think you’re reading way too much into it concerning race.

Think so?

Read the 10k+ comments under the YouTube video and the 50k+ comments under the FB video ... the great majority of them make similar observations including many black men and women coming to our defense on this one.

Matter of fact, Gillette is probably more worried about that reaction than anything ... white men are pissed, but so are white women, black women and black men apparently. They offended everyone who buys their products.

Not that unbelievable. These types live in bubbles and can't fathom that anyone could possibly disagree with their warped view of the universe. they are the same people that had a breakdown after the 2016 election. They simply can't deal with anything that exists outside their little sphere.

They must have resorted to getting bots to upvote the video to avoid any more embarrassment.

The other day there was 13k upvotes to 135k downvoted. Now the spread is 196k upvotes to 537k downvotes.

Spent way too much money on disposable razors over time.

Once you learned that it was a way to fleece the American public.

Time to learn how our fathers did it.

No not straight razors...

Just safety razors that last a lifetime and cheap double-edged blades.

You'll never go back to $17 for a pack of plastic disposables.

That razor will cost you $30 and the blades are like 10 cents each.

There is a better alternative and Gillette isn't the best a man can get. Unless the best a man can be is to waste money on razor blades built into plastic razors.

Only thing I will miss is their shave gel

1) barbasol beats any gel foam. It's cheap, so you wouldn't think it. But of the things you can buy in a can, it's at the top of my list.

2) give a brush like this and Taylor of Old Bond Street cream a whirl.
The brush is a small investment, but you'll get more shaves per dollar out of the tubs of cream. Small advantage- there are a fair number of scents that are pretty great. Sandalwood is probably the most popular. Mr Taylor's has a good scent. I actually bought Rose for my wife back when we were engaged and would occasionally borrow it. I think it's actually my favorite.

On the brush above, I don't own that one specifically, but it is well reviewed. I have the starter kit Art of Shaving brush which I would recommend other than it being small, and it only comes with preshave oil and aftershave lotion which is not really necessary. I don't really like the starter pack shaving cream, either. And I think AoS is slightly overpriced given the existing of Taylor's. Once I decided this was something I liked and was going to do, I picked up a pretty fancy Muhle Silvertip Fibre brush which I would highly recommend, but the upfront cost can be anywhere from around $40 up through $150 on that model, depending on whether you like plastic, chrome, or tortoise-shell handles.

They've had unfettered access to markets with with a colluded monopoly along with Shick.

Their prices and margins were outrageous and within the last 5 years they've lost considerable market place to Harry's and Dollar Shave club and their margins and profit has been in decline and this will make it worse.

Nike comparison is idiotic.Nike is a fashion/ status symbol in which people are willing to pay overinflated prices.NOBODY thinks of their razor as a fashion statement and women especially aren't gonna pay $24 dollars for a pack of 5 cartridges.

And it's now in Walmart and other retailers.

Go to a Walmart and you'll see lots of available Schick and Gillette ravors and cartridges and they can barely keep Harry's in stock. They're flying off the shelves.

They missed the virtue signal train. A year ago the ad would’ve been heralded as brave. Now folks are just tired of it.

Just watched it. It was both sexist & racist.

GFY, Gillette.

Aw shite. Deep end, here I come.

To be fair, Gillette did pioneer this, and you can still pick up on eBay and Craigslist (and a few Facebook groups) old Gilettes that are as good as anything out there today.

Anyone actually considering making the jump, start cheap and with a very mild and versatile razor. For simplicity's sake, try either
- Merkur 34hd (this is a long-handled version of the 34c, a little more comfortable if you're coming from a cartridge razor, but by all means- the 32c is great, just maybe a little more awkward for a beginner).
- Edwin Jagger de89. This is the same head as the Muhle r89 which costs $50 vs $42 for the EJ. The big difference is that there is knurling on the handle of the Muhle (merkur up there has it, too!) but not the EJ

For blades, try a sample pack that has as many of the following:
-Feather (expensive, sharpest. People love or hate them, but using them is sort of the "in" thing if you read any forums. The answer to "what's the best blade?" Anywhere online is responded to with "feather" as quickly and often as something on the OT cost about tree-fiddy.
-derby
-gilette 7 o'clock (though this does sort of defeat the purpose of the threat. I've actually never used them, but they have a pretty big following. And I guess spending less on a company that annoys you is better than spending the same amount on it
-shark
-astra. I use Astra Stainless and buy them by the 100 for $10-11 on Amazon.

Now, as above, I've gone a little farther with this stuff than I had originally intended because a buddy of mine was super into it, and it was fun to talk about. I started with the Merkur 34hd and would recommend it. I moved from there to a Merkur Futur, which is an "adjustable" razor meaning the blade gap can be bigger/smaller with a twist of the handle. The cap snaps on, and it can get a little loose/wobbly, and the handle was smooth which made it somewhat slippery with wet hands. I still use it a lot- it is a very, very aggressive razor when opened all the way. But it can cut 2 week's worth of growth to bare skin with a single pass pretty easily.
The other one I use a lot it a Muhle r41. Many reviews joke about getting matched for a blood donor when you buy it, but it's really not even as aggressive as my Futur. It's good for day to day use. If I'm lazy and let it grow a week, I've gotten spoiled to just how quickly the Futur can cut through it without even stopping to rinse the blade, so that one still sees a lot of use.

That's my attempt at being succinct. I'm happy to expand on anything or share some references that helped me when I was first starting.

The soaps and a good badger brush. Soap in cup, badger brush, 10 cent blade in a $30 last forever chrome razor and you're set.

Gillette and the companies that wanted to make millions wanted to complicate shaving...they realized there was no money in razor blades because they are so fricking cheap so they abadoned the life lasting razor for incorporating the blade into some cheap plastic...especially Gillette.

They were one of the first companies to promote planned obsolesence and praticed it before almost anyone.

So then you'd have to use a new razor every other day.

Just buy an old safety-razor and some cheap blades...you can get a pack of 1,000 blades for like 5 bucks.

It will cost you 15-20 bucks to shave an entire year with the soap after the intial 30 buck investment of the razor.

I bet most people spend 20 bucks a month on cream and the disposables.

That’s where I have a gripe. You sell fricking razors. Why do you think that there’s a social responsibility associated with that?

Agreed.

Also, the last half of the commercial is a good, understandable message. The problem is the first half where they basically did anyone who used their razors are guilty by association with the assholes they portray.

Here is the problem. You are in business to sell me razors. I don’t want to have a god damn conversation with you. If you want to have a conversation, do it with a SO, a friend or a family member, or just stfu entirely. I don’t want to have a conversation with the a-hole trying to sell me overpriced razors.

Disposable razorz have always been garbage...used them a couple of times and they tore up my face.

Double and triple edge with disposable cartridges was the only thing that prevented irritation and cutting...Schick and Gillette were the only product that really worked for me until I tried Harry's and Dollar Shave.
