True. Some just don't want to give their money to companies that do this. Nothing wrong with that.

The backlash against the sjw narrative is driving this. Companies should avoid this type of thing imo.

I think many people don’t take too kindly to a corporation trying to sell crap by moralizing to its consumers. At least that’s what I find offensive about the ad. The sheer greed in becoming a compassionate corporation when it might drive sales is revolting. Also, when I want Gillette’s thoughts on anything outside of shaving I’ll be sure to let it know.

"Obviously, it's on the news and the company is trying to down-play it because almost no one was offended by it."

Sure

It's been my position that companies should try to remain as politically neutral as possible

Want to give some of your profits to an organization? Go for it. But if you pick something that can be considered politically polarizing like the NRA or PP you're a dumb arse.

I really doubt Gillette was surprised or wasn't prepared for the response to the commercial. They are just playing the game of any publicity is better than none.

This. They are professionals and very intelligent. The fact remains, I don't need a damn razor manufacturer preaching to me about "toxic masculinity".

When a female engages in the same activities are they still toxic, or are they cute?

The same as Nike. They’re identifying their customers.

They can advertise what they want.

I can chose to never buy any of their products.

I was dumbfounded by them going right out of the gate with text messaging. Am I supposed to believe girls don’t do that? They do it far disproportionately more: Jonathan Haidt on Joe Rogan discussing this

I think the sheer hypocrisy of the situation is what bothers people the most.

You could never in a million years make an ad attacking, belittling or defaming any other identity group as a whole. Nobody would in this day and age would ever even consider doing such.

Imagine some company putting out an ad telling women or blacks or gays how they as a group need to get their shite together and do better.

The "outrage" you see from this Gillette ad wouldn't even register compared to the outrage such an ad would generate.

Left wing SJW types are every single bit as intolerant, bigoted, and hateful as skinheads or the KKK, but we strangely live in a world where their racism and sexism is put on a pedestal and celebrated as virtue. That's very dangerous.

I think companies are choosing to pander to left wing types for a variety of reasons.

1. The obsession with marketing towards young, urban types (which tend to be more liberal)

2. Marketing companies being made up almost entirely of urban left winger types.

3. They think they will win more brownie points with the people they are pandering to vs. the people they offend, making it a net win.

I am using Schick from now on. They make better quality razors and they shave better in my opinion. Only thing I will miss is their shave gel until I can find another one that shaves smoothly.

Gillette

I'm OK with this as long as we can apply this same rational to all segments/groups of society and not just to males.

I switched to Harry’s a few months ago and I get a better shave than with any Gillette product.

Try Dollar Shave Club, you'll never look back.

Couple of years ago, on the OT, I did a big sample and got input from a lot of the guys. All the while I did six or seven samples myself beginning with Harry's, then Dollar Shave Club, also tried ordering blades straight off of Amazon (was the least expensive at the time and the one a lot of the guys were pushing) then did Schtick and Gillette best offers through sales and mail order.

In terms of a good shave at a good price DSC beats them all and I've had a thick tough beard my entire life plus I keep my head shaved during the summer especially.

I tried hard to stick with Gillette for other products because they are old school American and we used to own a summer home up in Tryon in Gillette Woods ... well, we were above Gillette Woods on Melrose Mountain but we had to go through Gillette Woods to get to our gated area ... but Gillette used to be a uniquely American male company and I learned a lot about them through that area.

My wife and I agreed, after this stunt of theirs, we'll avoid all Gillette/P&G products until they make this right ... and we've voiced our opinions on social media and FB as well as sending them emails, which they have already responded to.

My wife is taking this very seriously since she gave birth to a white male, our Son, 21 years ago. She is seriously pissed-off about this, far more than am I quite honestly. A lot of women with Sons are from what I can tell.

I mean Gillette trying to make it look like the black guys were taking a stance against the white guys in an effort to protect the white women .... seriously, that's just going too far. They tried to subtly make a racial statement in the process of insulting men in general ... and that just wasn't cool. Good friend of mine who just happens to be black laughed at it all at lunch today and he said, "why are you white boys laying down for this shite?"

It's a good question.
