Translation: I don't like the rules God set, so I'll deny Him and do whatever trashy thing I like.
So edgy, a true model for society.

So people before the 4th Century had no salvation?

they were brainwashed as children.
part of it is acceptance on Faith that the entire book is divinely inspired and not the product of dozens of rabbis and many Royally employed Englishmen working from the four
then-available sets of texts in various languages.

The writings of CS Lewis helped me a lot. Faith is the key to salvation. Paul is very clear about that in Ephesians
So true. CS Lewis was genius. As was Paul. Funny you mention this. I had a convo with my law school roommate about Paul yesterday. She recently went on a trip to Greece and surroundings. She went to the arena/stadium where Paul addressed the Ephesians. She is far from an evangelical (as am I). She was so moved by the experience. It struck her that Paul’s letters/speeches to the Ephesians weren’t just him standing on a street corner like a nut job. THOUSANDS were able to see and hear him. It was very moving for her - and for me to hear her talk about it. And my word - here we are touched by Paul’s message thousands of years later. And here are you and I who have never met having this in common. That in and of itself is a miracle. And the more you recognize them, the more they manifest themselves in your life.
Paul’s whole blinded by the light was a true miracle and conversion. We’re all like him in that once you see it you can’t unsee it. It’s as old as time itself. If we stop complicating religion by recognizing that God gave us an ethos to show us the way to happiness and prosperity- it’s easy to believe in miracles. He didn’t put us on this earth to suffer. He put us on this earth to be happy. If you follow the way the truth and the life - you’ll get there. Amazing things will happen.

Simple. A person looking at the layout in my study would say the space between my desk and rocker is empty. Whereas a Zen Buddhist would say the space is full of nothing. So I borrow from that simple Buddhist logic and say the gorgeous blue sky this morning is full of God. In fact, right now we're floating in the Sea of God.
God is real. We are not alone. Since God is the source of all life, the air we breathe is a gift from God. We can all agree the human body is an amazingly complex physiological creature. But what about the omnipotent being who laid out the schematic for and molded the first man and woman? That's the being (Yahweh) I hope to meet someday.
"Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding? Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?". - Job 38:4-5

Without the Bible, you don’t have the Gospel. Without the Gospel, you don’t have salvation
I'd bet the first generation of Christians would be surprised by that. And all the illiterate people throughout the ages.
quote:
Natural revelation only gives man enough knowledge of God to be condemned. It’s the special revelation of the Bible that provides man the knowledge of God that saves.
That's not what Paul said. How were the first generations of Christians converted?

Why are you a Christian and how did you come to be one?
By the grace of god.

There’s lots of misinformation and/or misunderstandings in what you wrote. Please take the time to seek real Biblical scholars and theologians.
Why couldn’t you just explain the inaccuracies yourself? You can’t just say his observations are false without providing reasons for their falsehoods.

quote:The church had the Bible before the 4th century. They had the Apostles right after Christ ascended to heaven, and then then they had the writings of the Apostles over the course of a few decades after Christ. Those writings quickly were disseminated and copied and spread throughout the churches in the 1st century and forward.
So people before the 4th Century had no salvation?

My comments were in response to someone who doubted the necessity of Scripture for himself (or I suppose, anyone today).
quote:Read Romans chapter 1. Paul makes this very argument.
That's not what Paul said. How were the first generations of Christians converted?
The first generation of Christians were converted through the preaching of the Bible, the same as all generations of Christians. The Gospel was provided through special revelation to the Apostles, who preached the Gospel orally, and then they wrote down that revelation for future generations of Christians to have.
