by appealing to both sides of political leanings, to make it interesting versus a bunch of noise most people can't stand to listen to

Is CNN's market share/ratings higher now than when they used to be more of just a straight news network?

Tactical nukes only. The decent folk outside the big cities did nothing to deserve excessive fallout.

I don't think you understand most people

Seems to me, from about their inception to the early-mid 90s. They've been straight at various times thereafter, but went off the rails with OJ coverage. I know they sort of got the "Clinton" News Network moniker during Bill's term, but they weren't just pure political divisiveness during most of their existence. They actually used to pride themselves on being more of an international news outlet.

The three big networks (who all also had much higher ratings). Now there's really just a couple of more, and I'm not sure what they see themselves as distinguishing themselves from amongst those.
Sure, a lot more people aren't getting their news from TV now. So, there's that. I'm just not sure being so severely segmented can be attributable to nothing but a "sound business decision."
Seems a bit short sighted in the long run to me, but I'm not running one of these networks.

Fox News appears to have hit a homerun.

Backdoor channels make it hard to confirm. #operationmockingbird.

It's over. The media (as defined historically) is not and will never again be what it used to be.
The American public simply needs to ridicule the dishonest media at every turn. These people will slowly learn that they do not hold credibility. They will learn that they are the equivalent of tabloid journalism.

If it was PURELY about profit, CNN would realize that their numbers have been going down as Fox News's have been going up and would do something different to try to change that.
That , however, is not the end goal here. These people are willing to damage their own reputations and bottom lines in an attempt to destroy Trump.

And your comment is astounding that you somehow fail to acknowledge what is clear to even Forrest Gump. Media Bias. Hell, a few years ago they admitted it. There is no denying it.

That’s all it is. It’s not a conspiracy to lead to a revolution, it’s all intentional to drive you mad and keep you watching and screaming at your television.
It's so much clearer now and understandable to the rational mind, i.e., using some of the best media techniques available to pound an adverse image of their "target" — the present occupant of the nation's highest office — into the country's households 24/7 that if successful would alter perceptions and attitudes toward him in enough of the populace ultimately leading to Congress drafting Articles of Impeachment as the first step in removing him from office, and with the constitutional crisis and the national upheaval that could result, is in absolutely no way "politically ideological," but solely a capitulation to capitalist greed.

As for accountability. There is already accountability, these networks are accountable to their viewers.
Same as I've said about politicians, you get the shitty politicians you deserve, well you also get the shitty news networks you deserve. If there weren't people willing to watch CNN's hilariously one sided coverage , they would be more fair handed in their coverage, but they pay no price for not being so.

It all starts in the Board Room, fix the Board Room, fix the accountability problem.
