There was a news story the other day about a town in Indiana that was doing just that. Handling most over the phone.

Said they had spend their fuel budget for the year by the end of May.

They should buy electric cars more power/ speed and no gas bill. No need to go more than 300 miles in a shift

Local governments have other revenue sources, sales tax being a major one. I would imagine they would have to cut back spending in other expense categories first.

Higher taxes just like they raised the gas charge on our electric Bill. We will pay more taxes .

I remember when our local police chief adamantly denied any quota system for tickets, and went on to say they had an expectation for number of contacts an officer makes.

Some departments have already exceeded their annual fuel budget due to doubling of costs and are restricting units to responding only to 911 calls. Others planned ahead (aka knew President Poopy Pants would screw it up worse).

LINK looks like ford is working on it. i wouldn't be surprised to see more motorcycle cops. i don't think texas dps has any.
