How Did We Get Here?

Some of you older than me might have a better memory of our past. I am curious how past presidents have been treated, how much they were hated or lied about, etc. Here's how I recall it:
Carter:
The right didn't like him much: they thought his economic policies were shite, felt he was weak with foreign policy and that he handled the Iran hostage situation poorly. However, I don't recall any talk of impeachment or people taking it to the streets.
Reagan:
I remember the left disliking Regan and taking aim at "trickle down" economics. They made fun of his age. I remember them not liking the fact he had the CIA fight commies in Central America. They conjured up the fake Iran-Contra scandal in an attempt to stop him. However, he was never called a dictator or a Nazi or "threatening democracy." At least by no one that mattered. Do you recall it like that? Was the MSM more radical than I am making out? Did they treat him like Trump? I just don't recall it that way.
Bush Sr.
I don't remember much at all that controversial with Bush the elder. He was pretty centrist and, while the left certainly critiqued him, there was nothing radical. Most people on both sides seemed OK with Desert Storm, though there were a few "No Blood For Oil" demonstrations.
Clinton:
This is the first time I recall the right really, really disliking a president. I remember militias gaining strength in the 90's in the wake of the Waco siege. This culminated in the OKC bombing (McVeigh said this is why he did it). But those were fringe groups and most people thought they were crazy. OKC was done by 2 guys.
I also remember his impeachment pretty well - all because he took a BJ from Lewinsky. It was scandalous at the time and shocking to many people that the prez was getting serviced in the "Oral office." And I think the Republicans used it as an excuse to get rid of him.
I remember Rush Limbaugh making his career off Clinton and probably being responsible for stoking a lot of it. While talk radio had been around before Rush, it was mostly local. He was the first to take political talk national. He had tons of influence and I think was probably listened to by a lot of the GOP.
Clinton's presidency is the first time I remember conspiracy theories becoming mainstream as well. I remember Jerry Falwell made a series of VHS tapes called "The Clinton Chronicles" where he introduced the "Clinton Body Count" that people still talk about today.
Dubya Bush:
I think with the left, their radicalization and real hatred all started with "Dubya". 911 gave Bush a free pass for the first few years, but by his second term I remember the left calling him a Nazi and really going after him for the Iraq war (rightly so). He took a lot of flak for "torture" and all that stuff. It is the first time I remember the MSM openly showing their hatred (instead of trying to hide it like they had done forever). I also think it is no coincidence that this happened to coincide with the rise of the Internet, 24/7 cable news, and alternative far-left news sources.
Obama:
And, of course, the right did the same to Obama. While I am certainly no fan, there was a lot of bullshite spread about him too. Again, this coincides with the rise of the Internet and (this time) social media. Social media resulted in a lot of dumb shite being said. I have no doubt Obama was a far-left Marxist and race baiter, but there was a lot of ridiculous shite floating around.
Trump:
The left says "You think you guys hated Obama? Hold my beer."
Carter:

After Clinton, the Democratic party began running things like conservatives in their business deals but just lied to save face. Couple that with the media complying with their narrative and never holding anyone accountable on their own side and here you are.

PC culture is the linch pin that brought us where we are. It’s a large umbrella that operates like a business.

a bunch of Americans got scared after 911 and gave untold power to the federal government

The were worse about Reagan than you note. The left was unhinged. They called him, stupid, dunce, evil, dangerous, a threat to the entire world. They hated him.

Along with the repeal of Glass-Stegal and the deregulation of telecommunications (which ultimately placed control of virtually all media in the hands of 6 multinational corporations).
Clinton was every bit an empty suit for the globalists than Dubya and Obama were. Don’t understand why more posters here don’t see that.

IMO - most of what you've posted as a timeline of presidents is politics, politics as usual with maybe a few exceptions. Whatever.
What's changed is Trump and COVID. Trump was the trigger for sent the left full-on deranged, and COVID was the (weirdly) convenient and (weirdly) timed lever they were smart enough to press with all their might and the Right was retarded enough not to understand what was happening to them, and it is why we are where we are.
Take COVID out of this picture and I think it's 90/10 that Trump has a second term and Republicans control the Senate.
The Right taking the knee and begging for crumbs beginning last April and with no end in sight over COVID is what has changed this game completely.

Agree 100%. COVID means one of two things:
1) God hates conservatives and gave the Democrats a miracle
2) China did it on purpose.

You don't remember it that well then. I think that's when the country really changed. It was clearly evident that there were two sets of rules after this.

Got lets people make their own mistakes. Americans do not obey the same morals it once did.
Sodom and Gomorrah survived 2,300 years before God nuked it. He is patient.
Read the Old Testament. The Jewish people were enslaved several times during the course of OT history.

I suspect what we're dealing with today - the globalist/nationalist schism - started strongest in this country with Sr. Bush and his "new world order". After the fall of the Soviet Union, I believe there was a concerted ideological push for a globalist economic supreme power. The problem is during Clinton's administration, China entered the picture.
China is the hub around which this entire wicked globalist machine turns. When Trump challenged China, that's when the hysteria machine went into overdrive. The overreach by the left is to send a message - nationalism by either party will no longer by tolerated in American politics and those who champion it will pay.
It's about money entirely, not communism or capitalism. This is why its biggest supporters and weapons and massive global monopolies all pulling in one political direction.
