How can inflation only be 7%?

Some groceries are 50-100% more than 2 years ago. Fuel is 100% more expensive at least. Nothing costs less so how could the average inflation be at only 7%? I believe the real number to be somewhere more like 20-30%.

because the market basket of consumer goods is allowed to change when it politically expedient to do so

Biden controls the numbers. It's much higher!

Just another talking point the sheep will eat up. Kind of like the 11 million illegal aliens when we know it's over 30 million at a minimum.

Because the indices used to quantify inflation are fricking garbage.
In any case, I still subscribe to the Austrian understanding of inflation as "increase in the money supply". We just don't feel the effects of it as much so long as productivity can half-arse keep up with the increase.

Core inflation is the change in the costs of goods and services, but it does not include those from the food and energy sectors.

this ^^^^^^
nothing you NEED to buy is part of the index, rent food gas, utilities, none of that is in the index anymore
its the same thing they do with the 30% unemployment numbers, they exclude 50% of it and then say we only have 5% unemployment

It’s probably closer to 11% in reality.

I mean barely 40% of working age Americans paid income taxes last year and the labor participation rate is far more reflective of employment than what you hear in the media.
Just because people have been allowed to sit on welfare or other social programs doesn’t make them employed.
Our nation is very sick right now.

When you factor out food and fuel you can do this....you know the things that directly affect people.
Posted on 4/3/22 at 2:45 pm to Landmass
Up 7% since last time they said it was up 7% ?
Posted on 4/3/22 at 2:47 pm to Landmass
Most economists say to double the government released number for inflation get a true, more accurate number
Posted on 4/3/22 at 2:54 pm to Landmass
Because sheep will by that with just getting mad . If they were to know the true numbers those sheep might be more uncomfortable
Posted on 4/3/22 at 2:59 pm to Landmass
It's not
It's realistically up near 15%.
It's realistically up near 15%.
Posted on 4/3/22 at 4:22 pm to hogcard1964
At least 15, probably 25+ is more realistic in terms of day to day costs
Posted on 4/3/22 at 4:24 pm to Landmass
It isn't. Food and fuel aren't counted. Add housing and related expenses and it already 15% or worse.
