The guy that does my termite/pest control owns his own business. He and his wife are mid 40's and healthy with a 19 year old son.

His health insurance premiums this past year were $1850/mo with a $6000 deductible! That's $22,200 plus a $6000 deductible.

He said his premiums are going to be $2400/mo this year, but he's looking for something else or going without it since the individual mandate was repealed.

How expensive is yours?

My brother is 28, single, has a job making around 40K a year but doesn’t offer insurance.

He’s paying $480 a month with a $5,000 deductible. I told him he should’ve just paid the penalty and risked it. So much for “affordable”

That's $5760/yr. High, but not $22k/yr.

Check my other thread about major medical policies. He may be able to get one.

Yes yours is way more extreme, but he’s still using 1/4th of his total income as a healthy, single dude. Just ridiculous

And will do, I’ve been trying to find ways to help him

To anyone who supports this disaster of a law, I'll throw up an offer. I'll allow that person to pay the difference of my premium that shot up 200% since it's so wonderful. Let's see what he/she would say.

I'm self employed. I have a wife and 2 young children. The year prior to Obamacare, I was paying 400 a month for health insurance, that included dental and vision. It had a 1500 deductible. We picked our doctor and the co-pay was 25 dollars. It was through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.

On Obamacare last year, we paid 1500 a month. Our deductible is now 15000. So, basically, we're paying insurance for nothing and basically don't use it unless something catastrophic happens. Our co-pay is 45 and we have to use only their in network doctors and providers.

Yeah, its ridiculous.

Ocare is a disaster for the middle class. The goal was to bankrupt them, break their will, and after their surrender, usher in Single Payer...

I've said this before but everyone who voted for a congressman or senator who voted in favor of this abortion of a law needs to be taken out and shot.

We have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Family of 3 and our premiums are $1380 month with $5K deductible. Prior to Obamacare we were paying approx $820 month.

Now the untold and unreported story... the increases that don’t get reported. 2nd year after after Obamacare prescription copays went up. Wife uses an inhaler for Asthma. Copay went from $15 where it had been for probably 10 years to a $90 copay. She has it filled about 9 to 10 Times a year. So, that’s $75 x 9 or 10.... so an effective 8ncrease to us of about $700 year that is NOT part of the rate increases. 3 years ago the inhaler (Palmacourt) was dropped from the plan altogether so now it runs around $200 to get filled at CVS or HEB. So a total effect increase to us out of pocket just on this one prescription since Obamacare came into effect is around $1800 or $150 month if we average it out. When I say our premiums are $1380 month I really should add in the $150 increase due to Obamacare so really we are now paying $1530 month. Effectively our insurance has doubled. And our out of pocket went from $2500 year to $5000 year.

What an amazing accomplishment the ACA was. Cannot wait to be able to shop 50 companies for health insurance.

Funny Nancy Pelosi said the Trump tax plan was the single worse bill ever to come out of congress. Her and her ilk passed the single worse POS bill ever to come out and that is fact. It cost the Democrats seats at every level of government. It will be a forever shite stain on obama as it should be. Heck even my liberal friend who was supportive now has buyers remorse as his premiums have sky rocketed. Frick this Republican congress that did not repeal it. Only good this is getting rid of mandate might kill it of faster. The se politicians all suck arse!!

Hard working American taxpayers are forced to subsidize the coverage for others while incurring huge increases in their own premiums and having their co-payments and deductibles doubled. It was the Democrats who passed the law and are responsible for the bungled implementation.

Most people with Obamacare policies are unable to access their coverage due to prohibitive deductibles and co - payments. The Affordable Care Act was nothing more than a huge transference of wealth. It is amazing that a benefit which was previously provided by employers on a voluntary basis has now been placed under governmental control, forcing certain employers to provide the benefits or be fined, while telling them how the benefits are to be paid, how much they must pay, what is covered and deciding which of their employees lifestyles are to be subsidized by other employees.

In addition we were also being forced to subsidize health insurers through reimbursement corridors and subsidies when they were required to discard actuarial prognostications to assume any all risks with the knowledge that if their profits dropped accordingly the taxpayers would make up the difference. Now the courts have finally reigned in this assault on our constitution by the Obama administration by ruling these subsidies can only be paid when authorized by Congress. Congress has refused to allocate the funding and the carriers have elected to abandon this sinking vessel.

Yes, the " uninsured rate " may have dropped . Much of this is due to the mandate to purchase ( the first time in the history of this country the populace is forced to purchase a product just for existing) and those who would have been eligible for Medicaid even without the Affordable Care Act. Yet, the new insureds really are no better off as they must absorb large deductibles and co-payments to access their coverage. This is prohibitive for many.

When the Democrats were passing the ACA we were told, depending on the audience that there were 30,000,000 to 50,000,000 uninsured people in the country who would benefit from passing the ACA. Lets split it and call it 40 million uninsured. If those numbers were true then there should have been a stampede to sign up for coverage last year and this year. The Health and Human Services claims the number of signups this year is 10.4 million Remember, though we were not told the truth about 2015 signups. It was eventually exposed and finally admitted by the administration that they had lied and the number of signups was actually 6.3 million and not the 8.7 million they touted until they were exposed. There was no confirmation of how many of the current 10.4 million were previously insured and lost their coverage due to the ACA. In reality there may have been only 5 million newly insured. The total insured may have been well below 8 million by the end of last year.

My premiums have increased 64% since 2013 with higher deductibles and co-payments while I am also forced to subsidize the insurance of others. The Democrats can be proud of themselves. They gave Obama his signature accomplishment and now the Democrats own it. It has cost them the Congress and it was a significant factor in costing them the Presidency. It would have been better for Congress to have allocated an assigned risk pool of funds to assist those who were shut out of the standard insurance markets by pre-existing conditions instead of this giant exercise in absurdity and lunacy.

We were lied to again and again and again by this administration. Jonathan Gruber, one of the plan's major architects confirmed the level of deceit by the Democrats. Hard working tax paying citizens are being forced to subsidize health care for others, meanwhile many have lost their own coverage and are being forced to purchase insurance with higher premiums and higher deductibles and co-payments. Despite Obama's claim it would reduce premiums an average of $2,500.00 per family this year's true numbers of participants will continue to drop, primarily due to the cost. A recent report stated more and more Obamacare recipients cancelled their policies even after being afforded great leniency by the very liberal rules set by this administration.

So we had to totally disrupt health coverage that many were happy with, had to endure a total revision of the healthcare system all for less than 3% of the population of this country. This continues to prove how incompetent the Obama administration was and so ill prepared to govern. . The Democrat Congress and President Obama passed a defective bill and will continue to pay the price for it. The Democrat Congress had to assure Obama got his signature accomplishment. The Democrats now own it lock, stock and barrel.

Your neighbor is a racist/homophobe who is just too dumb to understand how much Obama helped him! Without Ocare his premium would have been 4900 a month, that’s what the rich capitalist insurance companies would have charged.

TLDR

Obamacare - what happens when lawmakers pass a bill they didnt know what was in; because it was too large for anyone to read, much less even comprehend.

Everyone can recall Pelosi's unbelievable statement, paraphrasing, " we won't know what's in the bill until we pass the bill". Amazingly after that revelation these bought and paid for fools in the D.C. Swamp passed that atrocity.

I agree with everything you say but it needs to be taken one step further.

Despite what the Dems said publicly, this thing was designed to fail. This was just a preliminary step to single payer, or as it use to be called, socialized medicine. Some Dems even admitted that early in the Obamacare debate before word went out to shut up.

Obamacare is indeed a disaster but a failure? From the Progs viewpoint it accomplished what they wanted. Destroy our healthcare system and leave people crying for Big Daddy government to ride in and save the day.

What they did not anticipate was a Republican takeover of Congress and White House. Hillary was expected to go to the American people and tell us that to save healthcare in America we would emulate Europe.

Trump and the Republicans need to shove this mess up the southern exposure of every democrat in 2018 and 2020.

Mission was certainly accomplished. Democrats thought it would be a win - win. They banked on all the sweet stuff at the inception creating such a large majority in Congress they would be insulated from any negative consequences.

Then the Tea Party happened and threw off their timing. As the negative effects began to multiply they got exposed and had no answer as premiums soared.

Try finding a non chain Mom and Pop type pharmacy. My buddy here in DFW had the same issue with his inhaler until his wife found this little private pharmacy in Richardson. His inhaler co-pay went to $15 per IIRC.

Also when my daughter was younger she had to have a special medicine for her face and at CVS with a coupon it was $750. Our doctor had a pharmacy in Indiana that would fill it for whatever insurance paid and I had to pay $5 for shipping.

Try the Mom and pop or talk to the Dr.
