You can't tell me they didn't send shockwaves through a chain of ecosystems back in those days...

There is a documentary that talks about sea life finally returning to some of those sites in the South Pacific.

Nuclear weapons material is quite small compared to the ocean. So Oceans are okay.

It was more worrisome the dropping of materials from nuclear waste everywhere.

Far less than when we dumped tons of DDT and nerve agents into the Atlantic after WW2.

But we got bikinis:

quote:

The French engineer/designer Louis Réard introduced a new, risqué swimsuit in 1946, right after the US had begun nuclear testing on Bikini Atoll

Réard named it a *bikini*, hoping his “smallest bathing suit in the world” would be as explosive as the bombs

He was right

Dunno, but they did ruin all of the steel in the world, except that which has sunk to the bottom of the ocean. That's why ship salvages are so lucrative.

There is nothing on this planet more awesome, beautiful and downright terrifying than a nuclear explosion

Tsar bomba shattered windows in Finland and Norway over 900 km from the detonation sight

Buildings heavily damaged or collapsed 30 miles away

3rd degree burns on skin up to 62 miles away

22 mile radius was complete destruction of all structures

2 mile radius vaporized everything no sign it ever even existed

And the Russians scaled it down 50% for the test, at 50 megtatons. It was built for 100 megaton payload
