why does it seem like houston has a 'once a century event' every 5 years or so?

cause Houston is massive so sometimes when they talk about flooding in "Houston" it is really in Alvin or cypress.

Remember, the Corps of Engineers said they could solve all water problems by simply dredging canals to divert the water elsewhere, to where it's needed. Many coastal cities have this problem nationwide. Just dig diversion canals to where the farming is and there's no flooding.

Yeah, climate change caused the dumbasses in city planning to grant endless permits to cover the city in concrete without addressing drainage.

The city isn't letting people build full concrete driveways anymore, it has to be partially permeable.

By "Houston" you mean one guy at aTm?

We've heard all of this before- 20 years ago. Good luck trying to peddle the same hysteria now that the world has seen your arse.

"Houston" doesn't fear this.
Sam Brody--cited within this article--fears it.

Nah, the seawall in Galveston will stop it.

Runaway climate change isn't projected to be a problem until 2050-2100. Maybe Houston should spend the next 32-83 years building a better drainage system, the "Ike Dike" and other things they might need to deal with runaway cc.

The story is nothing but a bunch of opinions....one by a real estate agent and another by a Marine Science Professor? Very scientific.

I guess anybody saying anything to further an agenda is worth a newspaper article.

I can remember getting trapped in a Houston flood years ago. We were stuck in a bar for 5 hours.

Things could have been worse....

I guess all the flooding in Missouri was due to sea levels rising from global warming too, eh?

Pay attention...

The developments since 2008 have created the displacement issues. We were in drought conditions from 2009 to 2013-no issues.

Rain has picked up above and beyond historical measures in the last 4 years.

I doubt you really are up to this, but . . .

Please explain the cause of the apparent cyclical 110K-yr climate phases within our ice age.

Or maybe it's that they built too many new neighborhoods without thought to ancient drainage patterns they were disrupting

Not in Ft. Bend country. All the new developments have to have retention ponds. Look at thr article closely. The sob stories are all from homes built in the 60's. The big rain and flood last year? All the new developments were dry, all the old developments were flooded.

Most rain in 24-hour period? 42 inches in Alvin, Texas, in 1979.

A marine scientist is by no means qualified to make such statements.

I live in Houston, have my whole life outside of college . Nothing has changed noticeably at all. I know of more people moving to Galveston than I did 10 years ago.... granted I was a child.

Yes it had nothing to do with building an ever expanding concrete metropolis in a swamp in one of the rainiest climates in the Western Hemisphere
