they need to utilize the already sunken highways as flooding overflows.
the new inner loop developments have created water displacement issues.
however, I-10/1-59/I-45/288 all have large sections that would be excellent overflow for the various bayous.
problem solved outside of a once a century event.

why does it seem like houston has a 'once a century event' every 5 years or so?

I'm willing to bet that's not water from the Atlantic Ocean.
This whole thing is nothing but a narrative for the dimwitted.

So, piss poor planning and development contributes to flooding? Who would have ever thunk it...
But oh no's its the "global warmings"...

Serious question, do you even read the articles you post?
The only mention of climate change at all is in the title. And the principles in the article are a real estate agent and a citizens group wanting better infrastructure in the city b/c our drainage sucks. Which it does.

i pointed out they only talked to one person in the article...a rabid climate-change fanatic.
typical tarzana hit-and-run. he just likes to troll.

It's amazing what a little psychological conditioning can make human beings believe.

One by one you will all stop posting in these recurring threads about climate change coming about as predicted. Already the narrative has pivoted to "we always knew it was warming the debate is if man causes it or not". A few have jumped to "man affects it but by how much?" Same as it was with the earth being round, same as it was for the theory of evolution (even though many on this board reject it still), and so it will be with the warming of our planet. Take partisan bullshite out of the equation and we'd all be on the same side.

The "theory of evolution" has been proven? Or is it still a theory?

bullshite.
The symptoms are real but his diagnosis is wrong.
I grew up in Houston and lived there for a while as an adult. The reason flooding has become an increasing problem is because Houston was built on a swamp and the development pattern of the past 30 years has been to extend suburban development - paving everything over with concrete - further and further out to the point that it takes an hour to get out of town from downtown driving 60 mph. They paved over all the "soak up" zones. That's all it is. Has nothing to do with the "global warming" boogeyman.

quote: Houston is situated in a low-lying coastal area with poorly draining soils and is subject to heavy rainfall events and storm surge events, which makes it very prone to flooding.
In addition, a large majority of the western suburbs (Katy, Cinco Ranch, Cy Fair, etc.) are natural wetlands. They naturally held floodwaters from rain or when the Brazos flooded. Now they are paved with concrete and drain into Buffalo Bayou. And most of Buffalo Bayou is at or near sea level from downtown eastward.
Even without rising sea levels, Houston is sitting on a time bomb of multiple repetitive flooding disasters.
Oh, and Houston is sinking because of the weight of all the concrete. That's what happens when you pave a swamp!
When you take away natures ability to deal with floods (swamps and wetlands) you have flooding!

Spend billions of dollars building levies and dikes with American material and labor, or send the equivalent amount of money to Niger, Burma or any other corrupt third world country to build windmills? Your call.

When partisans like Al Gore and co use 'climate change' to enrich themselves and fear monger then how is everyone supposed to be 'on the same side'?
