Your link says she was the 16th most absent member of Congress. She was ranked 1 spot ahead of Jamal “Fire Alarm” Bowman who was the 17th most absent.

Which I qualified by opting that it did indeed coincide with her giving birth. Posts in this thread give the impression she was lounging around on a Florida beach.

For all its problems, Covid did show how some functions can be carried out remotely and temporarily with minimal loss of function. If someone wants to argue about slippery slopes, then create some firewalls for it.

To be so adamantly against any consideration for maternity is just opening the door and fanning the flames for the Dems to make the case for the GOP being anti-women and anti-family.

Regardless of the merits of the issue, it’s just asinine and losing politics.

Harebrained simile! Congressperson is no job for someone who is the mother of a little baby. This is similar to Pete Buttguy taking leave when he and his “husband” adopted a baby. If you can’t do the job resign. These are not ordinary jobs; these are jobs that are critical to our nation. You can’t be on a SWAT team, for example, if you are on maternity leave.

I can see why she would want this bill, she’s going to spend a lot of time pregnant in these next few years

Unfortunately for her, that means she needs to step aside and let someone who has the time to do the job take over

Proxy vote my arse. No one votes so that someone else’s congressman can vote for their district

Johnson just said because of this vote Congress can’t hold any votes the rest of the week. Good job Luna and other republicans.

Luna is another one that loves to get in front of the cameras. Her desire to be the center of attention is more important to her than getting Congressional work done.

Except that's exactly what they are saying.

Can you show us a link in which someone is saying mothers can’t serve?

But if you are a mother you can't serve in government!

This is hardly the only field in which women sometimes have to make a choice between career and family.

I get it. And I believe pregnant women and new mothers are special and deserve special treatment. Just not in government representation.

Not because I'm mean... but because, in fairness, this would expand rapidly to cover other things. If it is good for the pregnant lady it's good for the man with cancer, or the drunk Pelosi needing a liver, or the transgender wanting facial feminization surgery... and so on.

The Republican party has gone in HARD against special treatment. How does it look to abolish DEI across the federal government, kick the troons out of the military and require women to meet the same standards as men in military combat fitness ... but then allow Mr. CongressCritter 12 weeks of proxy voting because his wife (or husband) had (or bought) a baby?

The interesting thing is that vote by proxy would benefit the majority right now. They've already had to hold back Stefanik's UN Ambassador nomination because the margins for their majority hold on the body is so narrow.

Pregnant mothers and spouses. Why are they more special or deserving than any other person with a valid reason for not being able to show up?

I guess because politicians are supposed to at least pretend they care about children and the country’s future.

how many new Mom’s at on time could there possibly be?

And how long of a grace period after birth are they given to proxy vote?

Everyone's favorite press secretary went back to work days after giving birth.

Luna wants three months.
