Such hubris. There is a vast chasm between how intelligent you think you are and how intelligent you actually are.

I hope Christianity lasts another 10,000 years

This. There is a reason communist revolutions focus on destroying religion. Keeps Cleetus satisfied with life and turning the other cheek.

Stay in your house from December 1st until Christmas has passed. That way, normal people won't offend you as much.

That isn't irony. You are misusing the word. Get better at the English language.

You even added a little extra bigotry to the silly remark. Congrats. Takes a super smart smarty to be a bigot.

Also, in addition to saying Merry Christmas, I checked an item off my bucket list when I got to attend my cousin’s wedding at St. Louis Cathedral a few weeks ago. I’ve always wanted to attend one there. Beautiful place. Didn’t take Communion though, despite being very hungry.

ETA: And my wife used to try taking my atheist ornaments off of my tree when her family is coming over,or tries to move them to the back or bottom of the tree. But I always put them back. Maybe that’s why her family stopped coming over for Christmas.

Sadly it's pretty bad that one can achieve good man status simply by not being an a-hole when someone is trying to be nice.

I mean maybe there are people out there who say Merry Christmas in a mean way but I'm 50 and every person who has ever said Merry Christmas to me was trying to say they hoped I had a good time in the holidays.

If I happened to be in a mostly Jewish area like where my sister lives I would probably occasionally hear Happy Hanukkah. You know what I would say to that? Thank you. That's what I would say to that.

And let me just tell you nobody would ever accuse me of being a 100% non-abrasive guy. But for fricksake I try to restrict it to people that deserve it

the Bible pretty much calls out Christmas trees as a pagan ritual

It’s in Job somewhere. My parents love that verse.

I did, what’s absurd is the continuing participation in a religious celebration by atheist people.

I know Christmas is part of the American culture but most atheist believe that religion is the crutch of the “weak minded”. Most atheist believe that religion is the catalyst for much of the strife and conflict around the world, using atheist logic, one would think atheist would be trying to distance themselves from all religious observances.

Salmon, don't attribute that ignorance to your parents!! It is in Jeremiah and it is talking about carving false idols. Not Christmas trees. They must skip the portion about a craftsman shaping the wood and it being called a wooden idol.

We just treat it as any other holiday where we focus on being with our family.

You might find this hard to believe, but most atheists are not opposed to religion.

Well it’s the reason why we never had a Christmas tree

I have one now though. My parents won’t come to my house when it’s up.

Cultures pick up things from other cultures all the time and atheists shouldn't be expected to be any different

It's not like the atheist is making sure he attends Sunday mass during the holidays

Most of us have just turned it into basically a family holiday with a focus on helping others and gift-giving. At least that's the way I've done it

You're confused...I wasn't responding to a claim of the Christmas tree being one thing or another. I was referring to the claim of Christmas itself being a pagan ritual. That is the atheist myth.

Actually the quote you were responding to said Christmas was rooted in pagan rituals, not Christmas itself
