I love these gotcha questions. My favorite as a Libertarian is whether or not I will accept Social Security. The answer is simple, if the person that stole my money offered to give me some of it back, then I'd take it. That doesn't mean that I agree with them stealing my money.

A lot of haters in this thread.
I don’t have any issue with you, all you did was take advantage of a good deal. I have an issue with the politicians who made this deal up!

I work for a hospital system. Paid off everything. Are you saying they will send me checks even though I already paid?

I wouldn’t brag about that.
The poster would have to work for a non profit centered organization for years to qualify for this.
Whats wrong with incentivizing people to do good things?

Most of those are rackets.
I don't know what the OP does and I'm not going to pry into it. It's probably not just one of these grant-milking "nonprofits" and I'm not going to criticize anyone for taking advantage for whatever our corrupt framework is willing to dole out. I'm just saying.

The only ones hating are the ones smothered with taxes and unending national debt for sht like this. 20K in taxes last year. Got a little back for the expenses of having a kid and being married.
Glad you got your free education I did not.
I guess being smart is figuring out what government can do for you instead of the other way around.
Maybe yours is the better way than mine. Learning a trade is for the old America.

Here's the qualifications:
1. Work for a school, university, hospital, charity, or any non-profit organization that can claim 501c3 status.
2. Make 120 (10 years) of payments while employed. Payments can be the minimum payment, but have to be made while employed by entity and after October 1, 2007. No payments prior to 10/1/07 are eligible.

I paid it off in less than 10 years

I thought anyone with student debt that can show they made payments for a certain amount of time qualifies? And the work for whoever; is just another way to show the loan was being paid for but not a requirement?

Nope - has to be a non-profit entity. I think they will expand this to all workers instead of straight forgiveness.

They look to the success of large sum handouts like this to justify the bump in cost of the next budget. Remember that

People were calling me and leaving messages several months back. I should look closer at this. Is there a website?

5 -10 years ago I would have roasted you, talked about personal responsibility, the social contract etc. Now, in Clown World, I'm here to congratulate you. A good dude has more of his own money and the government money printer go Brrrrrrr.

I started in 2009, but I definitely paid it off before 2019. My last payments were huge lump sums too. Should have paid the minimum
