They're not trying to hamstring a fella's future potential for productivity re: jobs, etc with a felony unless it's absolutely unavoidable. Factors that make a felony unavoidable are perhaps prior felony case that was pled down thus the person has already gotten a break previously, and seriousness of the offense. If he's had no prior felony case he should be good.
