The methodical attack on anything to the Right of Chairman Mao by the Democrats kicked in high gear way back in Obama's 1st months in office, from 2009.
DHS Report on Right Wing Extremism
Since then it's been a steady drip in one direction of claims of threats and warmings regarding to violence and civil unrest while all but denying the real threat from the militant Left.
Hitlery hasn't changed her tune from her 'deplorable and irredeemable' portrayal of anyone who supports Donald Trump. In fact, she's only quadruple downed.
Despite violent attacks on GOP Congressmen, USSC justices, 2 attempts on Donald Trump, and the murder of Charlie Kirk. Just to name a few.

—Poor me! My husband cheated on me. You should feel sorry for me even though I’ve had multiple opportunities to leave and take him to the cleaners.

—Poor me! I had an ambassador murdered because I f-ed up getting him to recover some weapons the State Dept I was running let fall into the wrong hands. Damn these Republicans and their questions! What difference does it make anyway?

She can frick right off. I do hope the rhetoric can change, from a phrasing standpoint and the things both sides call each other.
But as far as "turning down the temperature" I say hell no.
For too long the left has gotten used to the right playing by their own rule book, all the while the left had no rules at all.
In some ways, I think it's like nuclear weapons. The best deterrent from using them, is when the other side also has them. The MAD theory.
The right needs to use the same lawfare the left uses. If we don't do it, they'll continue to do it. If we do, then there's at least a chance theyll stop.
The right needs to toss away their rule book, except in cases of setting policy. Stick to conservative principles. But in the fight against the left, there are no rules until both sides begin following them.
