Drug smugglers should not have any legal protections at all. Massie and anyone upset about them getting killed can go kick rocks in my book,

What a masshole wasting time. If SecWar is impeached you have to impeach and remove those that gave SecWar orders.

Good luck proving SecWar followed unlawful orders. It is silly foolhardy-attention whoring a midterm election.

We get it...Massie is a masshole that wants to throw a tantrum on his way out. Kentucky no longer thinks he reps them even in a pretend fashion.

That's why I posted all 8 grounds. It's not just following orders, it's alleging war crimes.

Probably won't go anywhere. Probably just for revenge on Massie's part...but the articles have more bite than was represented.

It seems to me that, regarding Article I, II, III, VII, and VIII, he is merely following the orders of the Commander in Chief. If...IF...these truly are impeachable offenses, they belong to Trump.

No SECDEF takes America to war on his own.

As far as I am concerned, you can give the death penalty for all drug traffickers and even dealers. But from a strictly legal standpoint, I think he is perhaps most vulnerable on Article V.

I don't disagree about whether drug smugglers *should* have legal protections. Hell, let's not stop there. Child rapists *shouldn't* have legal protections either. But the reality remains that they do, and this is the charge where Hegseth is the most vulnerable.

Good to see a principled congressman willing to address the important issues facing our nation.

Rand Paul said the boats off of Venezuela were likely taking any cocaine to Trindidad and Tobago. I have never seen an accounting of the Pacific boats, but I'm guessing they were taking cocaine from Colombia to Central America? I think it's pretty wild to blast those boats on a war on terror theory.

I agree all the way round.

War Powers Resolution of 1973

Very likely unconstitutional so it's a bit hypocritical that the stalwart "constitutional republican" would try to hang his hat on that at all.

Rand Paul can’t even hold his senior senator accountable for going MIA. The whole Kentucky delegation is a joke.

Article I - Waging War in Contravention of the War Powers Resolution of 1973 Section 2(c): Charges Secretary Hegseth with waging the Iran war despite no declaration of war, statutory authorization, attack on the United States, or imminent threat. It establishes that the war was unlawful from its inception.

Massie is ignoring the deaths of US soldiers and citizens at the hands of Iran and its proxies. That's so America First.

quote:

Article II - Waging War in Contravention of the War Powers Resolution of 1973 Section 5(c): Charges Secretary Hegseth with continuing the Iran war after both Houses of Congress directed the removal of U.S. forces through H. Con. Res. 86. It focuses on his refusal to obey Congress’s express direction to terminate unauthorized hostilities.

Resolutions aren't laws. If Massie wanted it to end, then he could have passed a law. Massie is part of the group responsible for passing laws, right?

quote:

Article III - Waging War in Contravention of the War Powers Resolution of 1973 Section 5(b): Charges Secretary Hegseth with continuing hostilities in Iran after expiration of the War Powers Resolution’s 60-day termination period and any potential 30-day withdrawal period. It establishes that he treated mandatory statutory deadlines as discretionary.

Trump and Hegseth found a loophole in the law. Maybe the congressman should fix the loophole instead of crying about it.

quote:

Article IV - Ignoring Laws that Minimize Civilian Casualties: Charges Secretary Hegseth with ignoring laws that minimize civilian casualties.

Massie wants to hamstring our soldiers who are fighting a war, putting them at more risk. Did Massie never study Vietnam? Putting foreigners above our own troops should be an executable offense for a legislator.

quote:

Article V - Extrajudicial Killings: Charges Secretary Hegseth with replacing maritime law enforcement with unauthorized lethal military targeting of suspected drug traffickers, resulting in at least 221 deaths. It also addresses denial of quarter, secondary strikes on survivors, failure to rescue shipwrecked persons, and the creation of artificial legal authorities for the campaign.

These narcoterrorists were killing Americans, but let's play nice with them. Thank goodness we have Massie to once again put foreigners over our own citizens.

quote:

Article VI - Suppressing Free Speech: Charges Secretary Hegseth with using DOD authority to retaliate against and intimidate Senator Mark Kelly for constitutionally protected speech questioning unlawful military orders.

This is a joke. Telling soldiers to ignore orders is not covered by the first amendment. Remember when the Biden administration was working with big tech to censor conservatives?

Can any Massie lovers link to his impeachment of Biden admin officials for this? No? So, Massie is engaging in selective outrage instead of being principled? There's a shocker.

quote:

Article VII - Kidnapping of a Sovereign Foreign Leader: Charges Secretary Hegseth with directing Operation ABSOLUTE RESOLVE to seize Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores in Venezuela without constitutional or legal authority.

Another joke. So, the federal government isn't allowed to execute arrest warrants now?

quote:

Article VIII - Unlawful War in Yemen: Charges Secretary Hegseth with initiating Operation ROUGH RIDER without congressional authorization or an imminent threat to the United States, while also violating war powers reporting requirements. It further addresses extensive civilian deaths and unlawful strikes on civilian objects, rescuers, and other protected persons.

The reporting might be the only issue here. We've already learned the president has leeway to initiate conflicts. Massie doesn't like it, and instead of changing the law like a congressman should, he wants to come up with dumbass excuses to blame others.

This impeachment resolution is as laughable as the ones regularly entered by democrats. So, it's not surprising it is being touted by the usual suspects.

Let's pop back on a time capsule and impeach every SecDef in the last 60 years.

Let's start with GWBush WMD War crimes, and or Reagan, Ollie North.

It is ludicrous. It is Massie's newfound way to scream OMB.... on his way out to join MTG throupling with his boner phone and pine cone.

I mostly agree with your assessment. Impeachment is a political act. There is almost no chance for conviction/removal in the Senate.

Article V has enough legal cover to succeed if there are enough Republicans who are pissed at Trump (Ralph Norman?) and hate Hegseth.

Agree.

If Massie ever gets a hearing on the facts, the killing of the shipwreck survivors in Article V is probably his best shot.
