Generally I agree. The only problem is when they slip the drugs in your suitcase and then say, "well what do we have here?"

Having lived a lot of my life abroad in some of these countries that have archaic law I can tell you westerner (tourist type) are in these countries are the worst.
Somehow they believe that their constitution and western laws travel with them to other countries.
This is nothing new as I can remember in the 70's some people acting and thinking the same way.
BTW, excellent movie and very accurate to the Hayes story. Not much was embellished.

My favorite tourist story, this guy hooks up with this girl in Costa Rica and they spend their last night together laid out on a blanket under the stars, naked.
She heads back to NYC and he calls her several times with no response. Finally after a week she calls him, she has been in the hospital emergency surgery, big scar 10s of thousands of dollars, some parasite literally "crawled up her arse".
Well the fella thought he just had a bad stomach virus that wouldnt go away, so he goes to a local doctor. Doc says strip down and lay on your belly. Comes in 10 mins later with a slab of bacon, spreads the guys cheeks, slaps it on and says dont move for 30 minutes. Returns pulls up the bacon and a couple big tape worms attached. "How much I owe ya doc" Uh lets see, visit, consultation, slab of bacon, 10 bucks US should do it, and promise me your dumb arse will never sleep naked in the jungle
