My brother and his much younger third wife lost their minds during Covid and were complete dicks to my elderly parents about letting them see their young grandchildren. They live in another state. I haven’t seen them since, the only communication being birthday/holiday texts. Although things between them and my parents have improved I will never forgive the way they treated them during that time.

It’s so easy to NOT talk about controversial topics with people you actually know.
Those that have been radicalized laugh at your naivety.
THEY insist that you bend the knee, no questions asked, or they write you off.

Leftism.
A liberal would have had a conversation with you.

I saw the city radically change him over time until the point he admitted to me he was a full blown communist, which blew my mind since he saw the exact same shite I did living in China.
I had a friend when I was living in Louisiana and we grew up together and we’re best friends.
He moved to Los Angeles in his later 20s and was telling me how insane and how liberal they were out there.
Within 10 years, he had become completely radicalized and was a total far Left loon.
And then he became the angriest person I ever knew and every phone call I got from him I knew I was in for a 30-45 minute conversation about how everything is fricked up. I hardly ever got a word in.
Needless to say, I quit taking his calls and we no longer communicate.
What was my teaching moment from this?
He had a weak, malleable mind.

I don’t become close with liberals. I’ll be cordial with them and polite in the work setting but I have no interest in associating with such a crazy group of people.

My older daughter, she was always difficult to be honest. Just an unhappy human.
I swear this is true. I know many many people on the Left and Right. And I can tell you honestly…..not all of them, but a vast majority on the Left are clearly more unhappy, or easily annoyed or have pretty significant dysfunction. It’s truly disturbing.

I always say I don’t talk politics. My nephews wife is an Immigration Attorney. Need I say more.

No, a couple of my friends are Trump supporters and I’m a leftist (generally). We give each other shite occasionally then move on.

They never liked you. Just looking for a good excuse to end the relationship.

Seriously, how TDS hasn’t made it into this book yet is beyond comprehension.

This is a good example of being a normal, reasonable person.
People having different beliefs but not psycho

Have any of you lost close friends or family relationships over politics?

Both of my parents absolutely hate Trump. I’ve voted for him 3 times and they both know it. We’ve had some arguments and my Dad has called me an idiot several times. He’s probably right, but not for that reason. Anyway, we’ve learned to take caution about what we talk about nowadays but it does get a little tense at times

nothing is more important than family. if you lost your family because of politics, this is your problem.

Hah! I don't have close friends.

Yes, I have......and the LEFT started the debate and lost!
They are truly brainwashed and infected with TDS.
