Has anyone tried to explain what we were doing in the 20 year War on Terror?

Honest question? What was resolved over there? And what is the explanation for the 5,000+ dead Americans and trillions of dollars spent?

I really regret supporting going into Iraq and the Bush foreign policy.

I'm not an isolationist, but the neo con bs of the 2000's was sick and should never be allowed to take over the GOP again

As a vet of two deployments, I’m afraid we just wasted a whole lot of money. Looking back, I kind of remember that none of our officers had a clue at times what their mission was.

I also recall sitting in a dentist office here at home one day in 2010. On tv they were talking about how isis just took back western Iraq. I was numb. After all that we did to secure it for 6-7 years it was all gone. If that was even the plan to secure west Iraq, who knows.

It’s really gross that all the hijackers were Saudi and we didn’t do shite about them

Should’ve turned that entire country into glass and set up shop there with all that oil

We did create a perpetual cycle of terrorists to fight.

1. We killed extremists and also killed innocents. Some family members of the innocents get pissed off and start becoming extremists.

2. We kill the extremists..and in the process killed innocents.

3. Repeat 1 & 2 for two decades.

ISIS sprung up after Obama pulled out of Iraq.

I'm not saying the invasion of Iraq was right or wrong but after the troop surge in 2007 the foot was on the neck of those fricks. "Al Queda" in Iraq turned into ISIS right up to and including all the highest leadership we had hiding in the darkest corners on that shithole.

Estimates place the costs at close to $9T and 1M people’s lives.

Moreover, the enormous rise and expansion of power of the security and intel state, the erosion of our Constitution and civil liberties, along with the associated unaccountability and secrecy have inflicted incalculable, massive, fundamental damage to the US.

Is it worth it?
