Has anyone opposing tariffs and is "of authority" offered a solution?

If any government official (past or present) is opposing tariffs as a means to level the trading playing field and nudge companies to repatriate American manufacturing offered a solution? And if so where the frick have they been in the last 30+ years?

It's like they keep raging about how bad they are, but I don't hear of any proposed solutions.

And if a better solution than tariffs is identified and implemented, then kudos to Trump for getting the necessary people off their asses and getting to action.

I've proposed true reciprocal tariffs. If Mars has 50% tariffs on $100B of our exports, then we introduce 50% tariffs on $100B of things we import from them.

Not this asinine trade deficit based penalizing tariff. It's just illogical. It's the first time I've felt that Trump is intentionally trying to treat me, as a supporter, like I'm stupid.

My take is the Dems hate it. So it must be a good thing, cause they are terrible when it comes to economics.

The answer to your question is no. They want it the same.

Perhaps not take on the entire world all at once? This approach allows for cooperation among countries and softens the blow.

However, that seems almost too obvious to mention.

Nobody truly opposes them, they just oppose Trump.

99% of the people here dont even know how they exactly work.

Let's talk about the price of eggs. Oh wait no?

No. Most of them, you will note, are rather well known Trump haters. And it doesn’t actually matter what the topic is, if it’s a Trump action or policy, the conclusion is very much predetermined that it’s an epic fail and probably even the worst case scenario. Then it’s at that point they start the process of “backfilling” some “reasoning” to explain their predetermined conclusions. That’s really all it’s about, not identifying and addressing the problem in good faith.

What the frick does that even mean??? Geez.
So many want to criticize and second guess Trumps ideas, which he made very clear months before the election. The ideas that American voters chose for the change Trump promised.
The simple answer to the OP is NOBODY.
Folks are so quick to second guess, but nobody is suggesting a better plan!
One thing is for certain, we couldn't continue in the direction we were heading. We chose Trump and his plan. Shut up. Sit back and deal with it.

If anyone can do better, give it your best shot in 2028!!

I asked him to articulate the problem

This is a "moving target" issue common with MAGA-ites.

For example, there is no problem with our trade deficit. So if that's the "problem" he's referencing, I don't think it exists (and we need no solution)

You have only been critical of Trump's plans. You have not said what you would do instead.

Lots of armchair, basement dwelling economists with bad cases of Orange Derangement would prefer that we just continue down the path to destruction without trying something radically different in effort to course correct.

The problem is, as noted in a few posts above, the same geniuses don’t believe there was a problem with the system.

The opinions of those who doubt that our trade balance is a problem aren't worth considering anyway.

Another example of a problem that does not exist. Due to trade at least. Pure histrionics and dumb talking points without substance

Every entity and individual has problems at all times. Thus the nature of the universe.

Some of the problems that Trump is trying to solve don't seem as problematic to some because at the end of the day things are trade offs

Just like Trump's policy that he is implementing. It's a trade off. Whether it ultimately turns out to be a net positive for America is unknown at this point. But he is certainly willing to induce some suffering to achieve his end goals because he understands everything is a trade off as well. That doesn't make him right or wrong. We don't know the answer to that yet.
