re: Harris County planning to raise property taxes by 8%

Property taxes are 100% unconstitutional. The retards in the previous generations let it happen and now we don't actually own ANY property. We effectively rent our land and homes from the government. If we don't pay the tax rent, they can take it away.

I bet if Turkey Leg Hut came out and said that raising taxes would frick them then they'd consider lowering them.

It's one thing to have a life long politician making decisions. At least they have some idea of the ramifications.
We have a 27 yr old who's never had a real job acting like she's some oracle of wisdom, when she has no fricking clue of what any decision impacts.
She probably thinks raising the rate 8% automatically give them 8% more revenue. I've love to hear her talk through if that really is true or not.
Ed Emmett must laugh his arse off on a nightly basis...

So glad I moved to Montgomery County from Harris recently (can't change my forum ID). They are no longer enforcing mask mandates in Montgomery as the county judge said it is unconstitutional which it is. The city of Houston, not all of Harris County, is very much hood outside of the River Oaks and Galleria areas. Fort Bend voted Hillary and has become blue. Fort Bend is the Karen capital of the greater Houston area, numbers wise. I just hope we can keep Montgomery bright red for the foreseeable future.

100% false. You’re confusing the appraisal with the tax rate. Two totally different things. And few homeowners actually see an10% increase in appraisal every year, while EVERYONE would get hit with the rate increase.

Heights is plenty nice, just filled with Beto voters. I’ll probably leave the neighborhood when I’m ready to settle down.

Not all! I'm a Heights resident that would never support low T Robert Francis.
Although my girlfriend and soon to be Heights resident does.

I live in a different Texas County and in just a few days I'll be able to lock in my property taxes at the same rate till I depart. I'm sorry for you guys in Harris County. Perhaps Montgomery, Ft Bend and Waller will keep the rates low for you. And for all those really young professionals who settled in the Heights, enjoy!

She is a smart lady. Her politics are trash though. I am working on converting her. Hopefully her tune changes a bit when old Ann Harris Bennett comes calling in October with her property tax bill.

She has a great rack and an awesome career and bank account.

Then how so dumb?
Ask her if she’s cool with giving away 51% of what she earns and she what she says

Life is good here in Fort Bend.
Although Fort Bend is turning blue too. By Dems who don’t want to actually live in Dem areas.

There are plenty of intelligent, high earning individuals that are super liberal and have what you would consider wrong politics. The large, urban centers of America are full of people who fit this bill.

Who is paying 51% of their income in taxes?

An uprising should come to the politicians for continuing to pick the pockets of Americans without showing all the details of the expenditures. I would love for these line items to be scrutinized so people can be disgusted by the utter waste by the government

I hate to see them raising any tax, but an 8% increase in an item that is less than 1% of your annual budget?
It is a rounding error on a rounding error.

Property taxes in Harris county are about 3% of the value of your home. Considering most people have a home that’s 3x their annual salary simple math shows you’re off by a factor of 10 in the impact to annual budgets. This is significant.

Average list price in Harris County is $290K and the property tax bill on a house worth $290K is over $6K. Must be nice for $6K to be a rounding error. Rounding error would assume its less than 1% of total budget so that would mean $600K+ budget. I would also bet that anyone with a $600K budget is not living in a $290K house therefore the math changes yet again. Needless to say your rounding error comment is just wrong.
