Exactly. There is a weird paranoia that Obama and Kerry were Iranian agents. It makes me laugh because of the control AIPAC and Israel have over D.C.

If we aren’t going in how we would reduce the regime enough for a kinetic uprising to win? Sure as hell couldn’t do it hands off in Iraq or Afghanistan.
If it’s just a quick hit on their nuclear facilities I get it, regime change with a major regional power is a completely different animal along with the question of what follows in Iran if the government does fall.
In Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria it sure as hell wasn’t some high functioning western style democracy, it was more like a mad max movie run by AQ with tax revenue and a standing army.

I agree with Halperin. I seriously doubt that Trump would ever commit U.S. ground forces to mountain warfare in Iran. Israel has already massively degraded Iran's ability to export terrorism by decapitating Hezbollah and Hamas. Plus, the Assad regime in Syria is no more. With complete air dominance provided by the Israelis, all it takes is a handful of bombs and we're done. Iran would have no nuclear program and would be stuck in their little mountainous box. They can still lauch some missiles at Israel, but that's the extent of it. The Iranian ground military is primarily for the protection of the regime from the Iranian people. Not only would deploying them abroad leave the regime open to civil war with no way to quell it, but you're talking about a minimum of 800 miles from Iran to Israel in wide open desert with no air cover. It just isn't possible.

I'm hoping that Trump's hardline is a negotiating position. I'm reasonably confident that it is. Most Trump supporters are waiting for him to pull the rabbit out the hat - again. We're not the ones squealing that the sky is falling.

Who honestly didn't already know this? The Democratic Party goes absolutely banannas when a Republican is POTUS.

Of course Trump won’t plan to put boots on the ground. But he can only control so much. If a sleeper cell in the US commits a terrorist attack or if a proxy bombs a US base killing Americans before you can blink we are in another war in the Middle East.
