Last time I was out in L.A. for work (just two weeks) back in 2004, for a lark I checked out what my salary would actually be able to afford.... I think I could get a mortgage for a closet, a very small closet, but if I wanted it powered, it was out of my price range.

I was in Oakland a few months ago and came across one of these massive hobo camps.
It was so bad that it was spilling into the road so, in typical bay area fashion, they put cones around the piles of garbage rather than telling the bums to get their shite out of the road.

I was in SF for 2 weeks this past summer. The place is a progressive wet dream: the rich live in their enclaves, protected by security and walls, while the poor live in squalor along side the homeless. There is no middle class in SF and that’s how the progressives like it.
