I don't know. I do know they don't have mass shootings once a week, though (which is a miracle when you consider 50% of London is Muslim now). The last time they had a mass shooting they cracked down on guns pretty hard, as did Australia and Canada. All three countries pretty much banned guns completely in the 1990's.

My point is we have to decide. Do we like our assault rifles enough to live with this stuff from now on? If, yes, then so be it. I have owned an AK-47 and a few AR-15's in my time, so I am not some anti-gun liberal. However, I am willing to give up assault rifles if it will help prevent kids from being shot up in a school or church.

Anders Brevik killed 77 people and he didn't use an "assault rifle."

Correct, and this makes the rest of your post irrelevant.

The guns have always been there. It's society that has changed for the worst. Gun control isn't the answer. Our society needs to take a hard look at itself and change for the better. I don't know what it will take to do that. We have to hit rock bottom, but no one knows yet what rock bottom is and that's scary.

No I don't. Gun control is low on my list of issues I care about that it's a non issue.

You personally giving up your guns doesn't seem like it would help anyone not get shot unless you planned on shooting someone.

BTW, "assault rifles" make up roughly 1% of our gun homicides.

So what. That doesn't mean that you "don't really GAF about gun control."

Your posts in this thread show that you do, regardless of how much you deflect from addressing anything.

I think we need to vet who gets them and who doesn't

No outright ban

And we did that with alcohol after we ended prohibition

Guess what? Minors are still getting alcohol today

What is an "assault rifle"? What distinguishes it from an ordinary semi auto hunting rifle?

Feel free to give yours up then. Mine doesn't make them any less safe though so I'll keep it.

So you want to take away rights without any due process. Cool

I disagree. We've always had guns, sure, but I don't think we've had the number of guns we have now. Nor did we have the had high capacity magazines (on both pistols and rifles) that we have today.

In the 1950's, you wouldn't find many people with a semi-auto rifle with a large magazine. Today pretty much every old boy south of the Mason-Dixon owns an AR with a drum magazine.

No longer is it just bolt action hunting rifles, pump action shotguns, or six-shooter revolvers. Now it's .40 cal Glock's with 15 round mags and AK-47's with 30 round (or 50 or 100 round) mags.

Considering that this shooter and the Las Vegas Shooter all did their damage in a matter of seconds, I think Bump stocks and other semi-automatic weapons kits that can easily convert semi to fully automatic weapons need to be debated and maybe even semi-automatic weapons themselves.
