However, treacherous goons like John Thune are more interested in their own personal power, than party loyalty or leadership. Had there been Republican victories, as could have been the case, in Alaska, North Carolina, Georgia, and elsewhere, Thune may well have lost his position as Senate majority leader. His preference is to maintain his position as leader, even if it is minority leader and costs the Republicans the Senate. It is a nasty situation..
