Graves vs Landry - Plus any Dem?

Thoughts and opinion son whether or not Graves decides to run for Governor?
Also, anyone see a Dem lining up? Cleo? Wilson again?
I think Graves needs one more thing to hit Landry and he might jump in.

Why would Graves do something like that? Seems like political suicide to take on a sitting governor in your party, even if they do have a history.
He should wait and run next time.

Doubtful.
There’d have to be multiple somethings causing a huge upheaval for the proper support and money Graves would need to line up behind him for a legit challenge, and I don’t see that happening.
Even if those types of influential business folks and such aren’t thrilled with Huey P Landry, they’re not going to put themselves out there backing a different GOP candidate in 2027 if he’s seeking re-election. The old saying about if you’re going to take a shot at the king, you better not miss. Gov Landry is the Republican Kingfish right now.

Most important election in 2027 will be for Lt. Governor. I have a feeling that Landry will be plucked to lead some department in the Vance or Rubio administration or if a Democrat wins, he will run for Senate against a retiring John Kennedy.
That will setup who will be governor after Landry leaves. He could pull a Huey Long if he runs for Senate and stays governor for as long as possible, and hold off on taking his Senate seat.
quote:
Ultimately, on September 9, 1930, Long defeated Ransdell by 149,640 (57.3 percent) to 111,451 (42.7 percent).[92][93] There were accusations of voter fraud against Long; voting records showed people voting in alphabetical order, among them celebrities like Charlie Chaplin, Jack Dempsey and Babe Ruth.[49] Although his Senate term began on March 4, 1931, Long completed most of his four-year term as governor, which did not end until May 1932. He declared that leaving the seat vacant would not hurt Louisiana: "[W]ith Ransdell as Senator, the seat was vacant anyway." By occupying the governorship until January 25, 1932, Long prevented Lieutenant Governor Cyr, who threatened to undo Long's reforms, from succeeding to the office.[94][95] In October 1931, Cyr learned Long was in Mississippi and declared himself the state's legitimate governor.[96] In response, Long ordered National Guard troops to surround the Capitol to block Cyr's "coup d'état" and petitioned the Louisiana Supreme Court.[94][87] Long successfully argued that Cyr had vacated the office of lieutenant-governor when trying to assume the governorship and had the court eject Cyr.

I hope Calvin Duncan runs.

I don’t trust Graves to be honest. He’s very polished and would probably give Landry a hell of a run, but I don’t trust him.

I can't see any Dem right now lining up. Still a bit early.

There will be a sacrificial lamb put forth by the state Democrat Party, but no one serious. No one on their bench can win a statewide election in Louisiana these days. Pre-2nd term John Bel Edwards ain’t walking through that door.

It is incredibly rare for an incumbent Governor to be defeated in Louisiana. Landry will win another term.

More curious to see if Graves runs for his congressional seat.

JBE is running and it will be a cakewalk.
Don’t like it but the Cajun Dictator has pissed everyone off.

That's why LA Legislature passed the bill limiting governors to 2 terms. Up for vote in November since it's an amendment.
