In July 2018 President Trump traveled to Granite City, Illinois to speak to steelworkers at the US Steel plant that reopened earlier in the year.
Trump supporters lined the street to greet US President Donald Trump to the city.

During Trump’s visit a local KSDK reporter spoke with one of the steelworkers at the Granite City plant. The man said he is a third-generation steelworker and was out of work for two-and-a-half years.
quote:
US Steel Worker: It’s nice to know we got someone is fighting for us, to keep our jobs. It was rough for a lot of us.
KSDK reporter: If you had one thing to say to the people watching about President Trump what would you want them to know?
US Steel Worker: We’re back.
For the record. Paul Ryan was AGAINST this.
Fast Forward...
US Steel announced they will likely cut 1,000 jobs from the Granite City plant

No worries.. there are millions of “green” jobs out there.
Or so we were told there would be.

Usually like your posts but this is a nothing-burger, JJ.
Been in that plant hundreds of times, still do business there.
Suncoke makes petcoke, which is made from petroleum and the off-gases are burned and create energy instead of the old way of making coke with coal (and there are lots of useful byproducts such as ammonia, tar, sulfer, etc.)
Suncoke is basically doing what Cleveland Cliffs did the past few years-- they are BUYING their customers. Cliffs had been a mining and freight (Great Lakes) company for decades. Now they are one of the largest steel producers on the planet after purchasing AK Steel and most of Arcelor-Mittal who uses their iron ore and direct reduced iron from their own mines amd manufacturing facilities now.
Anyway, getting back to US Steel Granite City.
Suncoke has a petcoke facility on one side of the road that supplies coke to that facility and USS had a coal based coke plant on the other side of the road and those batteries were shut down long ago.
Makes business sense for Suncoke to do this, if nothing else because if the US Steel plant idles or closes again, that Suncoke facility has no use.
FYI Suncoke has facilities all over the US near "integrated" steel mills that have blast furnaces. Won't mention who owns Suncoke but they're a petro giant.

OK, I've only been working within that industry for 35 years.
No offense, but just do an internet search how petroleum coke (thus the name petcoke) is used in a blast furnace.
Also, petcoke is injected into blast furnaces to make iron, not steel. There are a 5-10 further operations to turn iron into steel. I'd be happy to talk to you about those processes too.

Not sure why you're being so obnoxious about this but you're incorrect.
Also not sure why you've degraded to namecalling because you are merely ignorant of the way the industry has changed the past decade or two.
I'll gladly direct you to some sites if you want to understand or learn more.
