If you’re going to call people out and tell them that they are wrong you may want to do your research first.
The Mental Health Systems Act of 1980 (MHSA) was United States legislation signed by President Jimmy Carter which provided grants to community mental health centers. In 1981 President Ronald Reagan and the U.S. Congress repealed most of the law.
By repealing that law, mental health institutions had no funding, guess what happens when you don’t have any funding? I’ll leave you to figure that one out.
Conservatives only have themselves to blame for all of the mental illnesses in this country. Taxpayers did not want to foot the bill for mental health, in the ensuing decades prison prices skyrocketed, people with mental illnesses were just thrown into jail or later prisons and eventually let out and then you wonder why people are running around stabbing people today and shooting up places it all boils down to mental illness.

I remember a movement started in the early 70’s for more human treatment of institutionalized ‘patients’ and that led to mainstreaming. (Kinda think “One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest”)
This eventually led to an off-loading of state funded institutions where a variety of mentally deficient folks were kept, which the states were glad to let go of, due to expense.
This in turn led to leftist looking to the Federal Gov to subsidize all sorts of ‘mainstreaming’ programs, to which Reagan said , ‘so sorry, we’re already trying to repair a fricked up economy so - no. Enjoy the problem that you created because you couldn’t stand the thought of mentally deficient folks shitting themselves out of sight of regular society.’
And wah-lah, they’re on the streets...

I didn’t know this. I just remember the controversy when I was a kid and my Dad watched the CBS Evening News.
