The co-founder of opposition research firm Fusion GPS Glenn Simpson pleaded the Fifth Amendment on Tuesday to House Republicans who were seeking his testimony on the role his company played in creating an investigation into Donald Trump's presidential campaign.

“Mr. Simpson has proudly stood today on his constitutional privileges not to testify,” Simpson’s lawyer, Joshua Levy, told reporters Tuesday after his client asserted his constitutional right against self-incrimination.
quote:

Though it was salacious and largely unverified, the dossier eventually made its way to the FBI, and Republicans have alleged that information was misused to open the federal government’s Russia investigation.

Simpson has also come under fire for his relationship with Bruce Ohr, a Justice Department lawyer. He had an usually close relationship with Ohr, who brought some of the dossier information to the Justice Department and FBI. Ohr’s wife, Nellie Ohr, was contracted by Fusion GPS.

Nellie Ohr is expected before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees on Friday, and former FBI lawyer James Baker is also scheduled to give a deposition behind closed doors on Thursday.

House Republicans have zeroed in on the dossier and what top Justice Department and FBI officials did with it during the investigations into Russian election interference and possible connections to the Trump campaign.

President Trump has constantly echoed those concerns, tweeting as recently as Tuesday morning about Simpson and Bruce and Nellie Ohr.

I recall there was high liklhood he lied to Congress.

I’d give him full immunity if he sings. He’s the lowest guy - let him implicate others.

Fusion GPS would have played a huge role in the Clinton presidency

Imagine the turmoil and destruction they could have caused.

To be fair...there should be no consequences for a private citizen exercising his right in this regard.

Gov't Employees (while doing so about their on jobs) should be fired immediately. But, otherwise, no consequences.

And he shouldn't. The 5th amendment is a right we should all cherish. It sucks when an obviously guilty guy pleads it, but it also protects the innocent from malicious prosecution. It protects people like PapaD who are being politically persecuted. If Papa would have kept his mouth shut, he never would have been charged with "lying to the FBI" over something as inconsequential as a date and time.

As many anti-Police "get off my lawn and let me smoke my weed" people we have on this forum, I am surprised to hear this disdain for the 5th. Do you really want the authorities being able to FORCE you to talk? That's what they do in the middle East or in former Soviet bloc countries. That's what England did prior to the revolution. We don't want that shite here.

Now if Simpson lied to Congress previously, they should go after him. The best case scenario here is Congress shows him evidence he perjured himself and forces his cooperation through an immunity agreement.

Simpson pleading the fifth, meanwhile Chris Steele is avoiding previously scheduled trips to the US. Hmmm. It's all falling apart on them.

Doesn’t mean they can’t charge/convict him if they can develop the evidence independently, just that they can’t force him to incriminate himself.

Napolitano said that because he already had testified before the Senate, he's likely waived privilege.

Put a Prosecutor on the case, empanel a Grand Jury, and see if there is evidence to prove criminal conspiracy. If so, indict, and either go to trial unless Simpson cuts a deal. Like Flynn, Manafort, et al.

Not rocket science. Hammer His arse. He'll either give up His Cohorts...or be a martyr for their cause.

If it's proven he lied in his prior testimony, pleading the Fifth now is irrelevant.

Hey Jeff, the guy does not want to INCRIMINATE himself.
Hey Jeff, that's kind of a hint!
Hey Jeff, where the F is the Grand Jury?

And Fusion GPS employee Nellie Ohr, wife of former Deputy AG Bruce Ohr, says she will ignore Congressional demands to testify, even subpoenas.

Should be interesting. We shall see.

Oh you mean death by suicide. Or better known as Clintoncide. Two shots to back of the head and it's suicide when they are involved.

As much as any shadowy Tavistock "tentacle" wannabe who is not above attempting to slyly participate in regime change and any and all other intrusive, deceptive acts against targets in the West.

Ever visit that informative Fusion site. It's as barebones as it gets. It seems more an attempt at giving as brief a look into what they do as possible.

No proud identification of its CEO; no list of staff members, just flowery, high-sounding platitudes of minimal specificity that apparently are meant to serve as a mission statement, but invite more questions than answers.

The consummate shadowy narrative for shadowy members of their clientele.

So with Ilsa, we'd have gotten a new lease on life for the Clinton Global Initiative - only under a different format - and more Alinskyite participation in our gov't, plus a willingness to invite in even more "staffers" from what has been the most all-intrusive, deceptive propaganda mill the West has ever produced: Tavistock (originally Wellington House).

As goes America being a remaining bastion of the West, we could be talking an eventual state that would've been irreversible by preferred parliamentary means.

And had they been successful, this is just some of what the NTs would've foisted on an already reeling Republic.
