Update from Nate Silver

In the Trump Era where there are much bigger stories, the political stakes of a shutdown are fairly low, which is why a shutdown is fairly likely.

USDA just received an e-mail from the office of the Secretary (Perdue) about what they are to do in the event of a shutdown.

No such e-mail was sent the last 2 times they were up against a midnight deadline. Must be taking this one more seriously.

The news covering the shutdown + women’s March is going to be hilarious

I covered the last shutdown and several almost shutdowns and debt ceiling crises. This is unlike anything I’ve seen. Both sides SO confident they’ve got it right. Govt likely to shutdown without any panic.

Agreed! Need to get that message out there.

Every GOP member should be shouting that from the mountain tops.

House to stay in session for now. House Democratic & Republicans members overwhelmingly defeated Hoyer's motion to adjourn the House. Massie (R-KY) voted Yes. Evans (D-PA) voted Present.

Dems plan to address press at 12:30pm.

The White House is already reassuring allies on Hill that Trump merely wants to hear Schumer out — and that no deals will be cut during this confab, I’m told. Rs were privately starting to get nervous

"We had a long & detailed meeting. We discussed all of the major outstanding issues. We made some progress but we still have disagreements .The discussions will continue."-@SenSchumer on WH mtg w/Pres Trump.

Dems starting to fold?

The Trump admin just played the "trump" card. Most government agencies have enough current funding to stay open for at least one week. Notifications are going out now alerting employees to report to work as normal and plan on working next week even if there is a "shutdown" of the government.

It is having a huge impact on us right now as I am typing this. You have no clue what you are talking about.

OMA/OMAR dollars becomes a huge issue when you are trying to execute training and readiness activities you have been planning for months. A simple example is you cannot send units to scheduled events because you do not have the travel dollars to pay for transportation.

ETA: Do a cursory check of the Antideficiency Act. You cannot obligate funds because you do not have authorization to do so. As usual, The Spleen is a moron who talks about topics he/she/it has no clue about.
