Yep. The S/C/M belief that humans have an inherent desire to help others in an unselfish pursuit of the betterment of those outside of themselves is so childish in logic that it’s laughable.

Patriotism - noun
/'patre??tiz?m/

The quality of willfully allowing corrupt government bureaucrats to confiscate your property under threat of force or imprisonment, in order to fund welfare schemes used illegally to launder taxpayer money to friends and donors; and directed almost exclusively to unproductive members of society and illegal aliens.

Sounds like something a sick Leftist mind would ask for. So typical.

The entire concept of returning billionaires to New York to increase tax revenue has nothing to do with generosity of the state and everything to do with the systematic redistribution of funds to whom the government sees fit.

They are still a sanctuary city and most of their funds go to those funds that line the pockets of the people who collaborate.

Before you all freak out, too late I know... actually look at the context. This is in regards to Mamdani wanting to increase taxes more. Hochul says slow down, we need to shore up the tax base not raise taxes. Yes the state did it to themselves but she is making a valid point as an alt to more tax increases.

I know that "red headed step child" is just a saying but where did it come from? Beating innocent children?

Rich people did not get where they are by gifting their money in the form of taxes that will never see any legitimate benefits for them or anyone else.

I wish I could be alive in 100 years to see the final, drawn out effects of the NY tax and social safety net policies. It's bad now but this is just the beginning. This might not even be the end of the beginning yet, to paraphrase Churchill.

No clue. But heard it a lot from my dad growing up as a warning to get in line. Especially if I was to far away for a knuckle-sandwich or to hit with a spoon.

But now that I think of it…I was always innocent when I heard it so yeah that sounds close.

From an quick AI search…

quote:

The phrase "red-headed stepchild" refers to someone or something that is not fully accepted or is treated as less important. It often implies neglect or a lack of appreciation. For example, in agriculture, wheat is sometimes described as the "red-headed stepchild" of Midwestern crops, indicating it is overlooked compared to more popular crops.

Mamdani is in on it...
quote:

"Millionaire Tax" Proposals: During his campaign and upon taking office, Mamdani proposed raising taxes on high-income earners (those making over $1 million) to fund social services. Critics, including some business leaders, argued this could lead to a "wealth flight," or high-income individuals leaving the city to avoid taxes. This created a public debate about tax-motivated migration, but this is a consequence of high taxes, not a literal "exit fee" or charge for leaving.

Gavin in CA proposed a ballot initiative known as the 2026 Billionaire Tax Act to impose a one-time 5% tax on the net worth of individuals with assets over $1 billion who are residents as of January 1, 2026

They raised their taxes and now their revenue is less than it was before they raised it.

So, the solution is not to lower taxes. They just have to somehow ensnare and recapture the rich people who bailed, appealing to a presumed sense of communism that isn't present because these are rich people.

Good luck.
