Wow, that was a turrible article. And your post is almost as bad.

Basically a Goldman Sachs executive said something. It could be interpreted as "the wealthy don't have to follow the rules that the little people live by!!!!
I EAT THE POOR!!!!!"

Or, much much more likely he was referring to rules that allow advanced ("accredited") investors to invest in riskier assets. Clearly everyone, including the article's author could figure out what they meant:
quote:

Both the New York Fed and Goldman are familiar with accredited investor rules (or they certainly should be, at any rate).

So more senior Fed people decided that following up and getting a clarification really wasn't worth it since they knew what he meant.

I really don't think this rises to the level of the Nixon's missing tape. This seems like a complete non-issue.

(back to the OP) And even if it was an issue, and I think in general over-site needs to be improved, how is this the Republican's fault and not say, the head of the Executive Branch of government???? The Fed sure, but this is really more an SEC and, oh I don't know, a JUSTICE DEPARTMENT ISSUE.

Will agree on this, Repubs should make more an issue of this, but Obamacare and general poor economic performance are easier to focus on, so I can't really blame them.

the only lawmakers I've seen trying to do something about this are Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.

all they're doing is making the system worse for us and helping support big firms like GS

regulation helps the big boys and hurts their smaller competition. and the consumer are the ones who pay for the higher transaction costs

how did a regulator not know what an accredited investor is?

Isn't the purpose of the accredited investor designation to prevent start up business con-men from acquiring investment capital from unsophisticated investors? In other words the designation is to protect the small guy.

Also I think small investors can get around the accredited investor requirement through friends and family designation if they really want to invest in a start up.

Only a financial illiterate and/or drooling idiot would think that anything of substance has been revealed by these tapes.

What's that? Palin of the Left™ wants investigations on whether FRBNY has been "too deferential?"

Hmmm... How much did Goldman contribute to Democrats? Look it up. It's quite telling.

Sooner or later you'll realize that dems and pubs politicians are exactly the same.

The fact you guys can't see it is fricking hilarious and sad.

That should be pretty obvious given that Obama's DOJ hasn't sent a single one of these financial fraudsters to jail. One of the biggest failures of his Presidency, by far.

I think that it is safe to say that this is a very poor attempt at trolling by DS.

Did the article mention how Goldman employees, especially at the higher ranks, lean heavily Democratic?
