Going from willingly sacrificing generations of young men to fight for freedom to this

Freedom dying with a cough
The government has never, in its history, stepped back its power and reach.
A few years ago, we never heard of "weather days" but once the government learned the logistics they have become common place.
Society is adapting to a new idea: shutting down and submitting our freedoms completely the will of the government for "our own good"
Sure. It makes sense now, and appeals to our empathy and the greater good. But the government never retracts its power.
What about tomorrow? What's the next threat? The next crisis?
We went from being WILLING to die to be free to being willing slaves so that we could live.
Now we have people cheering on the the possibility of the national guard shutting down church Services in baton rouge.
We've arrived.

Because we have 2 generations of folks who have never seen real hardship.

Perhaps communism will always win out in the long run. It just takes people getting so use to luxury that they have no fight.

"Somehow the notion of unalienable liberty got lost. It's really become a question of what liberties will the state assign to individuals or rather, what liberties we will have the strength to cling to."
"It's only a matter of time before someone clever and ambitious figures out that the tools of dictatorship have been ready-made by well meaning governments all over the world."

Its just history repeating itself.
People are going to die from this virus
People are going to die from smoking
People are going to die from accidents
People are going to die from other illness
People have always died and suffered. Yet, it was in that context freedom was born
We are all going to die
This virus may be contagious but it is no where near as contagious as fear
And that fear is what is going to harm us in the long run

I said people would get tired of this lock down crap about midweek.
I hope they don’t take it further.

I will see your hyperbole and raise you a tinfoil hat this was all planned by the Bilderbergers.

The government has never, in its history, stepped back its power and reach.
During the civil war, Lincoln suspended habeas corpus. It was reinstated thereafter. During WW1 we nationalized the railroads and Smith and Weston. They were re-privatized thereafter. And during WW2 the government seized coal mines and trucking operators. Also returned thereafter.
We have a long history of massively expanding government involvement in markets during times of war and crisis and then pulling back thereafter.
Stop fear mongering about things you know nothing about.

We have utter fear of the inevitable, disease and completely have solace in the unpredictable ever advancing technologies we now depend on.
We are completely detached from reality.
I am worried about this virus, not because of the virus itself, but how the public would react when we become detached from comforts, not even necessities.
Hobbes points out that the State is conceived from the people turning over their rights for protection. For Hobbes, it was the protection of their lives and necessities. We gladly create a monster for comfort.

In these type arguments, the best way to see the issue is to avoid absolutes.
So, while perhaps the OP should have avoided saying the gov't "never, in its history stepped back"-- which allowed you to cite instances where they have-- his post still makes a valid point. The government has expanded and expanded over the decades and the ways and the degree to which they have intruded upon our private lives to justify their existence at the expense of our freedom is troublesome and at odds with the simple, but true, principles which guided the formation of the United States.
Your knowledge of history-- being able to cite those examples as you did-- is impressive. I couldn't have done it. But it becomes intellectually dishonest when you then seek to use what is a matter of degree to categorically dismiss the OP as knowing nothing. Because it would be easy to point out the ways the government has eroded our freedom... and how certain factions want to further disempower us all.
Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater; the OP is making a valid point (even if he shouldn't have spoken in absolutes).

Maybe now people will start to see the folly of red vs blue politics. If a red president shutting down the economy and printing checks doesn't wake you up, nothing will.

If not red vs blue, what is your attainable solution?
